Competent? Caring? Duffy is a Doherty hump and appointee, period. If he wasn't he would NEVER received the press he did. As always its staged articles reflecting on the mayor and his people. They knew the unions would react, thus giving them fodder for the paper to make the unions look like dogs. JUST THE WAY THE MAYOR WANTS IT.

so ya all are saying those arrests were staged and planned by doherty---btw---in other areas of the country there are no rules against an off duty cop making an initial arrest---only that those on duty must be called in----if that is a rule here that is odd and makes this area a haven for criminals

No they were not staged, but isn't it funny that the rank and file cops get no press for arrests that they make every single day, but Doherty's super-cop does?

Even though the local media had a pretty big hard on for the guy and him being appointed by Mayor Doughboy, I always appreciate police work done. Although, a 6 paragraph essay in the Times about stopping someone with a small bag of weed or a pipe is pretty excessive.

So, now the man is a part time officer in Dunmore AND Dickson City. Everytime a news article is brought up, it stresses it's not because of the money. He will be getting a little over $13/hr in Dunmore and around $17 in Dickson. He states he wants to stay involved in police work to set a good example for his students, but if that was the case, why not stay as a part timer in Scranton? I might have missed some details, but at this point it most certainly seems like a money issue. Not sure how much he's getting paid for teaching though, and I'm not sure how often he'll be on the job in either of those towns. Opinions?

As an retired cop myself .. I would think its because in your career you dont want gaps of unemployment for a slew of factors ... But Hey The guy has a family , has a home , Bills .. You gotta work... He has a career that he can be hired just about anywhere ,,, ( as long as your still active and up to date with all your credentials .. ) Think about him as a father and and a husband , just looking to provide for his family ... Not as a BADGE ,,, That badge comes off when he goes home... He is still a human being and a asset to any community he serves ..

IMO

Maybe because it was shocking to see a police chief, especially in Scranton, who was actually out being proactive and doing police work. Especially after 8 years or so of Elliott.

or maybe it was a way to make the union officers look bad.....They knew that they would file a union grievance and the paper would make them look bad..
