hi there....we did that in our previous house. We did a master suite w a huge walk in closet and a master bathroom and we had a little nook that we wanted to put a hug bench couch with big comfy cushions...but we made it a little play area for my daughter. my husband put in an "anywhere toilet" and did all of our hvac up there and did the electrical work and we put nice huge fans. THe reason we sold our house was because of our attic and the huge fans. lol....now let me tell you the problem we ran into....we never got it inspected when we were in the process of finishing it, so when we were selling it we had a problem!!.since it was used as a bedroom we needed to meet the requirements of a bedroom window, just incase there is a fire. So we had to take the window out and replace it or leave it and just say our attic was a rec room....if we did that then our house wouldn't appraise for what we needed it to....it appraised for much more if we used our attic as a master suite. So we took that window out which was only 5 inches shy of the fire escape requirements, and replaced it with the bigger one.
I loved my attic and so did everyone else. Ill try to find pics and send them.
Good luck!!! Its gonna be great.

There's a low pitched roof in a four square house that leads to a front porch on one side and a rear porch on the other. Both of those slope down fairly low.

We also have a portable fire escape - you hang it on the edge of the window. Perhaps I should get another. The house will be smoke alarmed of course.

I think it could be a problem if some one elderly or infirmed was up there.

It'll be a BIGGER prob if you do it and dont have Egress windows and a way down... What about the town you live in.. Are you letting them know about it ... ? I bet they want a fire escape installed...
