Default the most Un-New York City-ish towns in NEPA

Are there any NEPA towns where the pace, the people, and courtesy are still in Pennsylvania mode, that have not had the overflow from the east?

Mod note - The thread title was changed to reflect the intent (I hope!) of the OP.

of course!

but, locally, we've had an influx of Texans and Oklahomans (is that the way it's said?)

Anyway, I've never encountered more courtesy!

Even some of the locals have started to say "ma'am".

I love it!

The place where I spend a pretty significant amount of time and find this to be most so is Palmerton. People still know each other. They also walk all over town, and actually yield to pedestrians (!!). There is a community vibe yet, as a technical "outsider," (I have worked at a church up there for over 10 yrs now but I don't live there) I have never been treated unkindly. I also belong to a gym there, and it is like none of the others I have belonged to in the Lehigh Valley or the Poconos. People are actually friendly and help other members, it is really something! Definitely un-New York-ish in my book

What a nice report Karen!

This thread occurred to me as I was driving home from the post office.
An older man was sitting on his lawn, having a break, just relaxing comfortably,
smiling into the atmosphere..

as I was driving past him he looked up and I did what we all do around here..

we wave. everybody waves to each other..
we don't know each other but its just done here

its not an exuberant bon voyage' wave

its just a flag up flag down friendly acknowledgement.

Everybody stops to let others pass if they are walking, always.

I think if I was in another state and I did that (stop) the car behind me
might drive into my bumper..and scold me for stopping.

I'm spoiled by the love.

We are in Virginia, far from the fast pace of D.C.
Living here, one's inner kindness surfaces and you can live unguarded and wary of others.

We have to Relo to NEPA, and would like to live somewhere where its citizens are calm, kind & caring.

I read a lot about the "general" complaints in the larger cities of Scranton & W/B, so that area is out,
and the highway signs are alarming:
Beware of Aggressive Drivers" (<<--- they might be your neighbors). Lots of neg talk

...nor do we want to live in TinyTown or Podunk.. Just some nice clean low crime/good school, walkable downtown w/ movie theater, YMCA for the gym and swim, nice parks & good pizza

I would like to know what towns in NEPA are like NYC/NJ? I can't really remember any town I ever lived in or visited that reminded me of NYC in any way, manners, rudeness levels, crime, money, skyscrapers etc.

Sorry, my mistake.. I was trying to tip-toe too much.

I have been to Milford, PA.. a lovely town.. right over the border of NY state.
I had gone into a mini mart while husband was buying gas.
There were many people at the pumps and standing in line at the store. From their conversation I thought I might have been in the heart of the Big Apple,
not in PA. It may have been a unique moment when tourists from the city had converged into this mini mart to buy things simultaneously or maybe they all lived there..

I would like to know if there are towns somewhat close to the NY border where the propensity of residents that live there are natives.

Stay away from the Poconos and Mount Pocono areas. Lots of new Yorkers.

I can see the original posters concern many are abrupt and rude and that doesn't blend well or sit well with NEPA natives who I find pleasant for the most part. Out of towers from Philly and new York have boosted crime in Nepa !
