I am from Ireland originally, lived there for my first 20 years, then moved to Toronto for a year and finally settled in NY ; Long Island. We have been camping seasonally in PA for 4 years and every single year I say I want to buy something there. Now that we have a house for sale here, we may actually get to fulfill our dream. We love the area of the Poconos and like the Honesdale area and Lake W even more. It will be a vacation home initially and then we hope to retire there.

It is such a beautiful area....I miss the poconos dreadfully....I wouldn't like to live in Kunkletown anymore, more so, further north...around Lake W. or further north then that...for retirement...but well, who knows....?

I hope you have a great vacation.

hugs

My husband and I just recently moved to Lackawanna County. I am originally from the south. Specifically Southwestern Virginia. My husband was born and raised here though.

Born and raised in NEPA. Grew up in Throop..aka..Land O' Lead. College in East Stroudsburg. Took a teaching position here in SE Virginia...been living there since 1979. Lots of extended family in NEPA. Dad passed away this past spring but Mom still living in Throop. Went back to visit (as I do failry often) this past weekend. Enjoyed the summer like fall weekend. ESU had its homecoming..so had fun there.

Default Scranton Native

I was born and raised in Scranton. Lived there for 32 years, got married, moved to California and then to Pittsburgh and am now in Maryland. We hope to be able to move back to NEPA soon. We all miss the wonderful state of PA!

Ohhh I love it up there, used to go there fishing...and know a father and son who live up there, who used to work construction, name is Ron. Anyway, there is a shallow set of rapids on the Delaware, that you can wade out into, during the summer months and catch all kids of fish. You drive up past the bait shop, and turn right, and follow to an underpass....below that there is a right turn....we found it by chance. Haven't been up there in years, but love it there.

Good luck

Default There in 07

We have a good friend that introduced us to the Hideout and have fallen in love with the area. This forum has given us a wealth of information about NEPA and the people that live there and if anyone is familiar with Northport and its small town atmosphere, you can see why we were drawn to the area. Were still trying to sell our home here, and find one there (in the Hideout). Keep up the great exchange of ideas and viewpoints. We are sure we are not the only people reading your prospectives on life in NEPA, good and bad, and since we don't get the local newspapers, you provide us with a sense of the goings on thats probably better than the media.

I love NE PA, because it still holds close the old fashioned ways of life...easy, peaceful and not much noise and traffic. Someday, I hope to return to that area....yes, there is no work, and that is why I am not there....but hopefully, soon. NEPA has so much of everything, so close to the Jersey Shore, the Fingerlakes, cultural big city events...just a train ride away....great bus tours for the older folks, marvelous scenery, hills, moutains, and forests...yet untouched....lakes that are absolutely beautiful....wild game...fishing, and many fine people who are courteous and strive to protect the traditional ways....

I love PA....for the way autumn paints her trees braging crisper nights to come, for the way summer makes her streams sweat fog and wipes her face with early morning sun...the way winter's quiet calm, adorns a new fallen snow and the way spring is pregnant with birth....everywhere....green and lush...

PA is fantastic....

Good Luck

Scratch that. I'm starting to have second thoughts. Luzerne County might not be so bad after all.

NE PA

well attested
trees
undressing
charms a
now wounded warrior
twas sweet
of tune
once in
june & july
ardent or’
dark blue waters
like curious
lights that warmed
a lover’s kiss

forever lost
forever lost
in PA

through
cooling
eyes
of gentle visions
enchanting
stringed
pinnacle
until the
last
brilliant sky
shown final...

darling sages
silent tunes
forests
reaching out
sweet melodies
sound of calm waves
on
an endless beach
of the Delaware

I weep
and weep
now for solitude
cloaked
by night tears
swallowed by
what seems
for the first time
a cold sea of winter's
brilliance
and
thoughts
thoughts of you
cloaked in white satin
while I fire side
in a forest cabin....

ignites a pulse within

one darling sage

restless

smooth

tune of thought
tis
charming passion

jeweled
and
firm
like
the
last
rose of summer

breathing
deeply
under my skin
where shadows call
wondrous
knowing the losses of yesteryear
yet tomorrow brings new weather
exploding seasons of color

you recite
your own love songs
that come back
to find
you....

melodic sonnets
of twilight summers

inquire the chorus
of gentle winds
even
hewn
peaceful whispers
wild turkey calls
find their way
sweet murmurs
lay across
emerald stones
scattering
throughts of
a final kiss of nature

to nowhere

and somewhere

in veil of sighs
promise
that lives within
crystalline prose of pen
whispering love

once again

you touch
my redened hair
embrace
my breast
as if
yours

from that dear
lovely emotion
you brave
a soul’s embrace

finding peace
no other life hath
known

or’ thunderous echoes
in granite halls
in a place
deeply hidden
within our souls

don't let go
oh Pennsylvania
calling me home
