If you like it that is all that matters. Bushkill has recently had much negative press because of the murders in Saw Creek Estates. Maybe there are others on the forum that know more about the area.

I think that it's a nice area. It depends on what you are looking for. If you dont mind people (the population has really risen over recent years) and diversity (some of those people have come from NYC and NJ cities and are of non-white ethnic backgrounds) then you'll be fine. I have wonderful neighbors and haven't had any problems with crime. <<knock on wood>>

Murders in Saw Creek? What's that about? My son is looking at houses in that area and mentioned that many homes appear to have security systems. That's a concern for me. Also, what is the unit in the house that apparently grinds up waste before it's flushed out into the sewers? The real estate agent called it a grinder. Can anyone tell me more about the area? Is it a depressed area or up and coming? Any info would be a huge help since sellers and real estate agents are biased! Thanks!

We have had a vacation home in Saw Creek for 6 years and have never had a problem, thats not to say that there aren't any problems but we haven't experienced any nor anyone that we know personally but I do believe all gated communities are going to come with some problems, and some more than others, as far as the "murders" it was a murder of a man that was shot by his daughter's boyfriend as they were trying to steal some guns from his home (try Pocono Record for more details) I also know that there was an incident in Pocono Ranchlands that was so distorted by the time it reached the public, it goes without saying "believe none of what you hear and half of what you see. Anyway we love Bushkill and everyone that we know that lives there loves it. As soon as we can sell our place we will be buying a larger place (also in Saw Creek) and moving there year round.

Agreed Somewhere. I have had my house for two years and the murder (singular) has been so blown out of proportion that it is ridiculous. Not to mention that it occurred at least a year ago (although I believe it is closer to two years). In many places a dozen more would have occurred in the meantime, although people constantly seem to harp on that one. Actually, it should tell you something that years later people are still talking about the same crime (there must not be much else happening!!!). Anyway, I truly love Saw Creek. I vacation when I can and rent the house out the rest of the year. The people are nice and the community is well kept. As far as the grinder goes. I forget the correct name of it but yes many homes in the poconos have them. I dont think that's anything to be worried about. I dont know why people have alarm systems, but I dont think that should send up red flags. Bars on windows, now that's a different story. I myself do not have an alarm system and my house is vacant much of the time. Not once has it been broken into nor have I seen signs of any attempt to break in. I dont think the area is depressed but I do think that a lot of people go there in an attempt to escape the city and all its crime to fall into the arms of long commutes and high gas prices. I love Saw Creek and if I could find a job there I'd move in a heartbeat.

I sold my house there in 06. I'm in scranton now and love it. I use to sell real estate there. Where to live in bushkill. I would 1st stay away from home developments personally due to the amount of dues you pay and what you really get for it. It's really like a lil micro corrupt goverment.
The area is beautiful up there however the real estate bubble has popped up there as well most of monroe county. I feel bushkill is gonna take a bigger hit in values just due to the high gas prices. The nearest supermarket is a hour round trip. The area is built on being a commuter town so it will take a hit. my advice to those looking for a vacation spot... Find a nice getaway house not in a development and get a membership down at fernwood resorts so you can use all there amenities. There are lots of park owned roads off milford road leading to creeks, waterfalls and lakes all over the place.
