Thanks for the explaination! On Long Island we have Sicilian pies that are thick (doughy, doughie(?)) and rectangle but still made with Mozz and red sauce. I am partial to the good old Round ones.
By the way are round pizzas called "trays" or is that Old Forge style?

Hi there. I'm originally from Long Island myself and I'm partial to NY style pizza as you can tell. Old Forge calls their pizza, "trays" with "cuts", while we call ours "pies" with "slices". I love a good Sicilian pizza.

Are you from Suffolk or Nassau? I was born and raised in Patchogue and after my husband left the service and years of struggling we finally purchased a house in Medford. I am happy to announce that we are going to closing on our house there this month. I am still trying to recover from lowering the price by 100k, but am glad to be getting rid of it in this market.
It took me 15 years to convince hubby to come back to NEPA! I am so glad I finally got my way!

Since your LIers my favorite pizza off all time is in Seaford at Pieros, it's a huge round, dark deliciousness with a seseame seed crust. We were always at Roosevelt growing up so I'd always cut over there and grab a few pies to bring home. My brother was in the crappy hospital over there a few months ago and I was just dying to swing by and get a slice. Mmm Mmm.

I worked in Seaford for many years, in a bank right near the Pathmark on Merrick Rd. I loved that town....there was a great German Deli there too..that area has changed so much since I left.
Eddie...
Pathmark on Sunrise Highway...I used to shop there!

My grandfather owned a German deli in Seaford, but this was many years ago. I'm talking early seventies. The last one he owned was in West Babylon on Route 109.

I think the term "tray" started with Old Forge pizza, but in NEPA these days, all pizza, round or square, is ordered by the tray. "Pies" around here come in apple, pumpkin, cherry, etc etc.
