While looking around Lake Wallenpaupack today, we drove through Hamlin. It seemed to be a pretty nice area. I'm pretty sure I heard talk of the Hideout in Hamlin, and the talk was not good. Aside of that development, is it a nice area? We are really having trouble finding an area within a 30 min max commute of Tobyhanna that we like!

you don't like Pocono Pines? Pocono Summit or Mt Pocono? They are right south of Tobyhanna and there are some affordable houses mixed in there if you look. Close drive to 940 or 80 to get other places to shop or visit.

I've been told to avoid Mt Pocono and Tobyhanna like the plague. I'm not familiar with Pocono Pines or Pocono Summit. The school district is very important as well. We were trying for North Pocono or Wallenpaupack, although I've heard Western Wayne is good also.

I have a friend who lives in Moscow and loves it. Maybe you could ask your realtor to show you some houses there? He has shown me videos of his kids sledding in the streets there and it looks like a nice community and wouldn't be any further than Hamlin. Moscow is in Wayne County.

They have a really nice fair in Wayne County every summer. I plan to make a trip to it this coming summer.

The Hideout is very nice- several people post negatives about the HO but it is usually due to the fact that it is a homeowners assoc and they don't like the restrictions.

In the winter It can take a Hr to get from Hamlin Corners to Tobyhanna .. The roads are not well kept and rt 196 is all hills and sharp turns ..., Moscow is DEAD in the winter .. There is a real nice small community called Pocono Springs in rt 196 in Sterling ,,, It is a community ,But Not like the others ... I would stay Out of Monroe county at any cost .. Wayne county is 100% better ..

Riverside, why do you say to stay out of Monroe County? Is it because of taxes, crime, etc??
My husband will not like the possibility of an hour trip in the winter.....we live further away now, and it doesn't take him that long unless it's REALLY bad weather. I think we may have driven through South Sterling yesterday on our way to check out Hawley. We come from a very small, boring town right now. I would love to be closer to new things to do, but safety and schools are also very high on my list.

Monroe county is a hell hole .. There are a few nice places left but they will be gone soon too .. The crime, tax 's and schools there stink...

Check out Greentown , and Newfoundland ... If you go a little bit up rt 507 its nice there too .. ( But part of that road is Pike county .. Not sure exactly where the county line is on 507
