Default Child Care

Does anyone know how I could go about finding a child to watch in my area? What are the local newspapers for Shohola area?

I am looking for some extra $$$ and would like a child up to age 4 to watch during the day. Preferable someone my son's age (3) but will take any age up to 4. He really likes babies too so that would be ok.

Thanks!!!

Lots of people look for child care on Craigslist - it's worth a shot to post on there and doesn't cost anything. Good Luck!

I've had good luck on there but never searched for services, only bought and sold goods. I guess your mileage will vary, but it's worth a shot. My brother found his friend a nice apartment on craigslist.

Maybe you could get a lead through the Mothers and More organization: Mothers & More, Chapter 302, Pike County, Pennsylvania

There is the Pike County Courier: Straus Newspapers - Pike County Courier

And the News Eagle for Pike/Wayne:
News Eagle - Front

Another paper for Pike County is the Pike County Dispatch out of Milford. Their phone number is (570) 296-6641 (I saw no website for that paper?)

The Topix forum for Pike County is here and you could post a free ad: Pike County News - Topix

You could also try the Pocono Record at Stroudsburg & the Poconos PA news, sports, schools, entertainment, and shopping | poconorecord.com - The Pocono Record (you are far north as far as their "coverage" area)

Now another questions...what is the going rate for private childcare? I know when I had my daughter in private childcare, I was paying $200 per week, I supplied her food but I didn't pay if she didn't go. Is that fair for this area or too much??

FF,
I know people that watch teachers children and charge $30 a day off the books. The liability is too much so that is why I never did it. Godforbid something happens, its a litigious society.

Very true on the liability issue...$30 a day isn't too bad though...
Thanks for the input...

I think $25 is fair but I think I'm a bit more west of you where things do run a bit less money. I pay $20 for a half day for my son up to 5 hours. In NY I worked in a womans home when I was in high school and she was getting $90 A DAY. Cha ching! Guess it's all geographical....

I would call my homeowner's insurance and request information regarding a business type of policy. You need to protect your ass-ets IMO.
