FF, I know when you have a little one around it's tough ( I have one too!). Actually, I do not know who would fix that, but just as info I have heard some great things about Cronk's Appliances - but again I think they cover washer/dryers, refrig. Forget about Sears.....that is another topic for antoher day! LOL

Hat-
LOL...I ended up figuring it out. First I had to take the cover off to get the "lost" DVD out. Then when we went to play another DVD, I had a double picture, no sound and no color and the PROGRESSIVE light was on. No clue what that progressive button does but once I got it to go off, we were good to go again.
Thanks for the info though.

Progressive scan basically displays every line onto your TV screen. When progressive is off you are using Interlaced mode which only displays every other line. Progressive is generally considered to have better picture quality but your TV had to support Progressive otherwise you will get what you got today
Thats what the 480i 480p 720i 720p 1080i 1080p things are on new tv's. The I or P tells you if it supports Interlaced or Progressive at the resolution.
Just thought you'd like to know incase you ever need to know something like this

If the tape broke and stuck around the capstans the unit is done. That said, I would move forward and buy DV a Recorder which can be bought for $99 these days

Getting a DVD player or VCR repaired these days is a waste...new ones are so cheap that they're usually not worth fixing.

Agreed. I work for a major consumer electronics company, and these things are cheaper to buy than to fix.

Last I checked you can not buy a VCR player anywhere...I wish I had stocked up on the basic model....I have so many VCR tapes and only one TV with a built in that still works.

If you need a VCR, you can usually find them used for next to nothing. I bought one at an auction about 2 or 3 years ago, next to new, for $1....a buck.
