Hunting Question
Hi, I have been reading these boards for a while and thought I'd say hello to everyone. The wife and I are thinking of making the move from Union County NJ to the area and the move would be full time.
The area we are looking at would be the Milford to Shohola to Lords Valley triangle. I understand hunting is popular in the area but was wondering if the majority of hunting takes place on state land or is the entire area open to hunting. Do the planned communities allow hunting within the gates? What about communities without gates?
If we bought a home with 4 acres of private non-community land should we expect to see hunters walking through our property on occasion?
If someone could provide an overview of hunting in the area I would be very grateful. Thanks

Hunters should only be on your property if they have asked your permission to hunt there. It is helpful to post "No Trespassing" signs near your property lines. State gamelands are open to hunters, but the "entire area" that you speak of, other than state-owned land, would be private property and not open to anyone unless they were given permission to hunt there by the owner.
As far as I know, the "communities" gated or not, do not allow hunting due to the close proximity of homes.
Here's a link to a PA Game Commission map of gamelands:

Hunters should ask your permission but many times they do not. We have had some on our land and the land in back of our house. We are not in a gated community and even though it says "Violators will be prosecuted there is no one to enforce that".

That's when you put up signs that say "Illegal trespassers will be shot on sight!" LOL! I seriously have no problem with hunting, but I hear complaint after complaint each and every year living in a semi-suburban area from people about how they can't keep hunters off their land.

I think the hunters avoid my area, on account of the Bigfoot sightings.
Honest to God, my friend...the flippin' deer here in Lakeville...I have a six point buck living under my frickin' deck, and an eight-pointer in rut that chases my kids and snorts a lot.
I can't tell you how many times I've beyotched at the neighbor for keeping a trash can full of cracked corn and apple cores to feed her woodland "pets".
So...long story short...no hunting in my community. The deer have legal representation on speed-dial.

Another reason I like living in the city. The last thing I would want is guys running around woods by my house shooting guns and drinking beer.

This brings back fond memories of the "Deer Song" by the Wack Jobs from KRZ! " So he fired one more blast and shot his buddy in the a$$!" LOL!

I think jimhenry is right for the most part. There are a lot of people with large parcels who will invite hunters to hunt on their property to control the deer or bear populations. Since the hunters are not hunting on their own property, I think they end up going out of bounds a lot of the time. It is probably the rare hunter who blatantly disregards no trespassing signs. I've got about 7 acres in an area where many many people hunt and I've never seen a hunter on my property.
Actually, I quietly head into the woods with my vegetable waste to keep all the deer I can inside my little no hunting sanctuary.
