Angry Bushkill-Welcome to the neighborhood-NOT!

I'm so angry! I just finished building a new home in Pocono Ranchlands in Bushkill and I was supposed to get the keys to the house Saturday morning.
The contractor went to the house to finish up some work this morning and he just called me to inform me that the whole house has been covered with grafitti! Now what do I do?

I would call the police.

You may find that the problems you're trying to escape in the city will also exist in the Poconos.

That's too bad....that's one thing that really frosts my buns....people that have no respect for others' property. I think that graffiti is a symptom of a big problem in the Poconos: very little parental supervision of kids. Most often, the parents work in NY/NJ and do not get home until late in the evening, leaving the kids unsupervised and more prone to getting into trouble.

I would call the police to report it. But, actually it isn't his home until after the closing.
So the builder should call the police.
I guess the builder also has to redo the siding etc.

It is sad that some of the inner city problems have followed people here.

Kids being home alone until late at night just doesn't help the kids nor the community.

Geoffs, So sorry this happened to you. I hope it is fixed and your in your new home soon.............

Geoff,

I agree with Summering and Conorsdad all the way. I am so sorry this happened to you. Create a paper trail with the SP.

Best of luck,

I likewise agree with what everyone has said, and I'm sorry that your home has become the latest target of a recent rash of graffiti taggings in the Poconos. It seemed as if the vandalism problems were previously confined to Monroe County, but it now appears these issues have spilled over into Pike County as well.

This is also what happens when adults are working two states away and leave their teenaged children unsupervised for hours every evening. As someone who just eclipsed their teenaged years, I can tell you that I got myself into the most trouble when my parents' watchful eyes weren't fixated upon me. Nevertheless I didn't do anything too serious (the worst being having a relationship they didn't approve of) because I knew they were only working fifteen minutes to the north and south of me in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre and could be home in a moment's notice. For teens in the Poconos, their parents might take up to two hours to get home during heavy traffic, so they know they have free roam to do whatever they wish. Why do you think there have been issues with gang recruiters from NY and NJ coming into PA and attempting to attract so many of our youths? These kids are bored being stuck inside these planned communities with no supervision, and if someone came by offering them the opportunity for "excitement," don't you think most of them would pounce on that?

Things will only continue to get worse as people move further and further away from their workplaces. I'm now hearing that people are commuting to NYC from the Moscow/Mt. Cobb area in Lackawanna County, which is a clear two hours or so each way! If our elected officials would strive to bring more white-collar jobs into NEPA, then perhaps so many thousands wouldn't have to make the mass exodus into NJ and NY on a daily basis to earn a decent salary?

Good point about the white collar jobs needed in NEPA, SWB. Good point also with the no-option-other-than-mischief observation, too. I guess there is a dearth of after-school options for parents in NEPA, which is not surprising considering the area's historic demographic.

Hubby and I work about 6 miles from where we live, but we were not blessed with any children. If I did have kids, I can't imagine justifying a 4-hour total commute per day! How is that to the children's benefit?

I'm so sorry about the damage to your home. When we were trying to decide where to reside in NEPA early this Summer, I remember reading some very negative posts about the Bushkill area and thinking what a shame it is that city crime has reached it. I wish you the best of luck in getting the property damage issue resolved. I agree, if you have not yet taken legal ownership, the builder appears to have a legal obligation for the repairs. But, what if it happens again after you move in?

Right on SWB.....all these kids are left alone unsupervised for too many hours. We see this all the time. Who's watching your children? We stayed away from Bushkill because of all the negativity we received when we moved here 5 years ago.

Just a little update;
I called Ranchlands Security and they took pictures and report. They've had two other houses "Tagged" in the past month and will watch the house a little more for me.
The contractor is trying grafitti remover or will replace siding. I get the keys tomorrow!
Just another day in paradise!

I would call Barbara at the Ranchlands and give her a mouthful!!! I am having a modular put in there at the end of this school year and I know we are supposed to have security we pay for it in our dues!! This upsets me. Please keep me informed on things , my husband and I will be moving to 430 Bear. Good luck with your house.
