Well, I think you already know by now that the town is dominated by both Procter & Gamble and Wal-Mart, but there might be a few other options around. You could try asking Twigs if they need another waitress. See if the Dietrich Theater could use some help. Maybe you could even don the denim overalls and check out the options at Gay's?
You seem like you'd be good with children. Why not pursue your child care licensing and then set aside a room or two in your home as a day-care service for a few children? I know there are a few real estate agencies in town as well that could probably use a new agent if you pursued your real estate license. I'm sure KBlasi could give you a head's up in that field.
Best of luck, and it's GREAT to see you back again!

I am available for private daycare in my home
SWB, I am glad to be back!
I have posted that I am available for daycare and would offer a great rate.
I also spoke to the owner of Hickory Dickory Dock Daycare and told her I am available. I would love to work weekdays and have weekends off but I am flexible. So, how are you doing? Are U still at Lowes?

Howdy, howdy! Nope. I quit Lowe's in September because I felt as if they were being rather unfair to me. I put my heart and soul into that company for nearly three years, and they "rewarded" me by forcing me to fill an empty slot in a department that I told them point blank that I was NOT comfortable in---electrical! On my first day there I punched in, told the other guy in the department it was my first day, and he said "Good. Now I can go to lunch." I was then left totally clueless with the phone and customers asking me all sorts of complex rewiring questions! I felt very humiliated and degraded to have to apologize to people for referring them to consult a licensed electrician, and some made snide remarks back at me (as if a college kid working for $9/hr. is supposed to be an expert about electrical supplies).
I was constantly alone, even on busy Saturdays and Sundays at times, and then the tip of the iceberg came when a woman from Virginia called me to inquire about doing a ceiling fan installation over the phone for her elderly mother's home in Wilkes-Barre. I politely told her I needed to consult someone else first before taking her contact information and promising to call her back. It was then that I realized I was alone in the department, so I turned to my zone manager, who was clueless and called HER higher-up, who was also clueless about how to handle a multi-state order over the phone like this. I was just so tired of feeling clueless and getting yelled at while being in a department I didn't want to be in, so I submitted my two weeks' notice, much to their shock. They should have just left me in one of my other two positions, where I was very happy, productive, and brought repeat business to the store. Then again, you can't expect too much from the poor management we had. I'm hoping to land a seasonal job at iGourmet in West Pittston for the next few months and then land a permanent internship in 2008.

Oh I know what you mean
My son worked for lowes in sebring florida and boy what a runaround they gave him. He is not working for lowes anymore. we were at the Dickson City lowes and we also were in electrical and the sales help also didn't know much about that department. I thought lowes and HD were suppose to have people that knew about the departments. It is not the sales help but management that screws things up.
I hope I find something more suitable for myself here in Tunkhannock to do during the day.
I heard about the igourmet thing in the paper. I wish I lived closer to do that.

Oh definitely. Management wanted to try to encourage people to be "versatile" by regularly switching up their positions. While that might have sounded awesome on paper, it was AWFUL to experience. I can recall just how horribly our store was run on the first weekend after every department manager was shuffled around randomly to a different department. Department managers had no clue about anything in their departments and were expected to train new hires, who likewise knew nothing. Then a customer would come and ask a question and watch both of them stutter around like idiots. I had a hard time in electrical because while I still can't believe how much I learned while I was in that department through both hands-on experience and from the books I was studying, apparently electrical contractors have their own "language," that I just couldn't get the hang of. I'd go over to cut wire for them and hear something completely foreign to my ears, only to find out that the wire had been called that 20 years ago. My favorites were the customers who would approach me and ask something like "Do you remember those thingies they had back in the 1970s..." Ummm...NO! I wasn't even conceived yet! LOL!
I actually did LOVE the company in general. For the retail industry they had great benefits, flexible scheduling, and friendly co-workers. I just couldn't stand how STUPID management was! When I was a lowly loader in the parking lot I was as happy as can be! I was getting paid $9/hr. to work out all day, greet people, and be the extra "lift" that people needed. I had no fewer than two dozen people tell me that I was either the only one from the entire store that greeted them and offered them help or that I was even the sole reason that they chose Lowe's over Home Depot. Instead of leaving me where I was happy and productive they shoved me somewhere else, then somewhere else, then somewhere else... I felt like an expendible piece of trash after a while, and it was through tears that I decided to leave.

That's the problem with management
SWB, they thing they know what's best for the customers and employees and in fact, they do not. Unhappy employees make a unsatisfying experience for the customer. You loose the customer and your business suffers. If any managers/co. owners are out there, treat your employees like gold and you will benefit with profits to your company in the longrun.
