The Poconos truly DO have a lot to offer for tourists. By and large the traffic congestion is the LARGEST turn-off for me though in terms of becoming a full-time resident. I don't even care if PricewaterhouseCoopers offers me a $60,000 salary to work at their potential upcoming Wall Street West location in Middle Smithfield Township---it's just not worth the aggravation of sitting in endless gridlock. Will that bypass around Marshalls Creek EVER be completed?

Paul, there is major congestion everywhere, I'm sure you know that. I just drove through Newark yesterday and the traffice was horrendous. I remember back several years when I lived in Philly and commuted to work. For eight years I rarely drove and when I found a job worth taking outside the city I was shocked at how much the traffic had increased. Let's face it that each year there are thousands of teens who become drivers and increase the congestion. I just plan to try and keep a good job close to home and commute as little as possible.

Default Traffic........

I really don't think we have that bad of traffic!
The only time I was at a stop was going to the Bloomsburg Fair, almost to the fair, and we were parked for 5 hours. Now.........THAT is bad traffic.
I have been in short delays by Delaware Water Gap, nothing to speak of.
( back and forth to NJ for 13 years)
I live in Brodheadsville. This town had the rep of being so congested.
Well, unless its Fair Week, for over 3 years now.........I have not had traffic. I mean a little stop and go once in awhile is expected anywhere.
I think it is so worth it having these new stores up Stroudsburg way.
A little traffic because of progress ,won't bother me. We finally have some big box stores. I am thrilled, and delighted, can't be happier.
SWB if you got that job offer, do you think you'd have such a horrific ride to get to it?
Really, you buy a place on a back road.........and meander your way to work.
There is so much country here. Its country, not the city..........
It could not be all be that hard of a commute.
I'm not sure of the exact location. But, knowing the Poconos, wherever it is located, will be surrounded with mountain homes, and great places to live.
I'm looking for this congestion......
Take the big job if it comes along.......get in your red Mini Cooper and you can just weave in and out of all the back ups you speak of.

Default Another Article about the Poconos

I subscribe to a bi-monthly magazine "Where to Retire" and low and behold I just received the November/December issue last week - front cover references an artilce "the Scenic Poconos in Pennsylvania". The article is 5 1/2 pages long and shows pictures mostly of Stroudsburg. At the top of the article it reads: "Close to New York City, Pennsylvania mountains beckon with rural lifestyle and quaint towns". It references Milford, noting the artistic lifestyle of many people who've moved from the city. Although they reference Carbon, Monroe, Pike and Wayne counties, most of the exposure in the article had to do with Monroe county.

Really........Wow, someone is promoting us. There is some person really pushing the buttons somewhere. Hummmmmm....Who?
5 1/2 pages, that is quite a ton of information.
I only see New York and New Jersey plates around here lately, for the longest time actually.
The boomers will be retireing soon, and the World knows it,so that is probably what is sparking the interest.
I hope we have good planners in place. No plans involving chopping down of Mountain trees.........keeping parks..........growth can be good if it is done properly.
I've noticed some homes selling that have sat for awhile. I think our area is not in the slump we keep reading about.
