Imagine my surprise to be sitting and watching WNEP while cruising City-Data only to see a commercial come on to pump up the image of Downtown Wilkes-Barre. The new advertising campaign, called "My Downtown Wilkes-Barre," appears to be funded by the Downtown Wilkes-Barre Business Improvement District (BID), according to the web site I've been scoping out. They have a cute new cartoon-like logo that I also like.

The following paragraph was copied and pasted verbatum from this web site:

Downtown Wilkes-Barre is Northeastern Pennsylvania's largest
concentrated employment center. It is the setting for educational
institutions, cultural facilities, and government and community services that serve our region and beyond. It is home to restaurants, shopping, hotels, a National Historic District, beautiful parks and businesses both large and small. It is a living Downtown, with over 4,000 residents. Downtown Wilkes-Barre is both the center of one of the nation's 75 largest metropolitan areas and the civic heart of the Wyoming Valley. Make it Yours!

The link to the web site can be found here:

I think it's nice to see the Diamond City getting some positive press for a change. I'll admit that it does have a lot more going for it than people give it credit for. People see one or two shootings on the evening news and immediately write off the entire city as being "unsafe," which is by and large not the case.

What does everyone think of the new campaign? Will it help to boost the image of the city?

I think this site is wonderful. Thank You Paul for bringing it to my attention. This area is going to do just fine, just be prepared for the culture change that is coming via Philadelphia. Every day I see progress here and I am really getting to know the locals I work with. When I said recently "Couple two tree beers" it lit them up. We also have a new one for meats but I think it comes from elsewhere. "Toykey, Poke and Chichen"
