Green Ridge Photo Tour
For those of you who enjoyed my previous photo tour of Green Ridge, which was taken in December 2006, you'll absolutely adore my newly-expanded and updated photo tour of this historic neighborhood in North Scranton. For comparison purposes you'll now be able to see much of those bleak wintry pictures snapped nearly one year ago alongside photos of these same properties with Fall colors, harvest displays, and brighter vegetation, helping to illuminate the neighborhood's best asset---its greenery. Green Ridge sits more or less a mile-and-a-half north of Downtown Scranton and has tradtionally been one of the city's most affluent areas. I inadvertantly wandered a block or two into parts of Dunmore's adjacent Hollywood neighborhood as well, so please don't crucify me if a few of these properties are just over the city line.
RumAndCoke, I specifically have you in mind here, as I know you are interested in Green Ridge, so please let me know what you think. I may also do another photo tour today of the first snow of the season here in Luzerne County. The way the snow is clinging to leaves still on the trees truly is beautiful.
Enjoy my photo tour of Green Ridge, and as always feel free to let me know what future tours you'd like to see in Spring 2008.
For this photo tour I've decided to start off with twenty-five "winter" vs. "fall" comparisons from both tours to offer you with a good contrast between the seasons, as well as the remainder of my December 2006 photos to refresh your memories. The second half of my photo tour will consist of all of my new images from other parts of the neighborhood.

Rest of Fall 2007
Here are the rest of my newer photos from Fall 2007. As I prefaced earlier, probably about a dozen of these homes are actually located in the Hollywood section of Dunmore, as I really had no clue about where Scranton's boundaries ended and where Dunmore's began (my only clue was the disappearance of city council election signs from front lawns). I also saw our very own WeLuvPA pulling around a corner in his pick-up when I was strolling about that day, but I don't think he noticed me. With just how gorgeous many of Scranton's neighborhoods are, it still baffles me as to why everyone is trying to escape it like the plague. There's much more to this city than just a 3.4% wage tax.

Green Ridge is probably my favorite neighborhood in the city. If it were within walking distance to downtown I'd consider moving there in the future to raise my family, but now I'm hedging towards the less-than-stellar Lower Hill Section instead because I see a lot of potential there for a rapid comeback and a spike in property values there if and when the downtown renaissance ever becomes better organized.
thanks swb----i got to see an area where i was born and spent much of my earlier years in until my family moved to the pittston area----spent many summers in dunmore's hollywood section--am afraid now that i'm older and retired i may not be able to afford it----maybe one of my kids will leave philly and move there someday!
great tour!
Loved the beautiful tour! Is there a downtown area in the Greenridge area to go food shopping, restaurants, etc? If so, would love to see that in pictures. Thanks.
Nice Pics, but if you told anyone in Green Ridge they were part of North Scranton they would pop you one... Green Ridge isnt part of North Scranton, heck, Its on the other side of the river!!!

And if you told some people from North Scranton that they were from North Scranton they'd "Nuh huh, I'm from Providence"
