Smile Gobble, Gobble!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my friends (and enemies) I have created over the past year-and-a-half on the NEPA sub-forum! It seems like the Holiday spirit is already alive and well in everyone's hearts. I took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather this morning to go for an extended run, and all along my route I wishing "Happy Thanksgiving" to people, all of whom returned the favor with a smile, wave, or even in the case of one elderly gentleman heading into a convenience store, with the tip of his hat. I even got a nice front porch greeting back with a loud yet cute Joisey accent from a new transplant to our community, which proves that Joiseyites aren't necessarily bad apples after all!

It's times like this morning when I feel reinforced that my decision to remain in NEPA after college was indeed a wise one. Where else are people so friendly to complete strangers? I only wish I was running in Lewisburg instead, where people probably would have humored me if I opened my arms to try to hug them too! LOL! Hmmm...that might be an interesting idea for another homemade YouTube video---seeing reactions in different communities in our area to people trying to be hugged by complete strangers. Methinks I'd be getting a swift kick to the groin in some towns and have little old ladies trying to give me a peck on the cheek in other towns. Candid camera, anyone?

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Let's make this Holiday special by promising to NOT start any arguments today on this forum---there will be enough opportunities to release your pent-up Black Friday stress on here tomorrow! LOL!

Three people who I distantly knew passed away this past week, so I for one will be giving thanks that my entire extended family appears to be in great health. When I saw that 2,500 meals were served yesterday at the Scranton Cultural Center to needy stomachs, I felt blessed to have grown up in a middle-class environment where sometimes bills can be a hassle, but there's always been food on the table. Too many in society, to quote Britney Spears's new song, say "Gimme, gimme more. Gimme more. Gimme, gimme more." Too few are giving thanks for what they already DO have.

As I re-read this reply, I realize that I have been guilty of this myself during this past year, falling victim to increasing pressures of materialism and consumerism amongst my peers. I've been lusting and praying to tool around in a new Mini Cooper, even though I should be considered blessed to have my 9-year-old Ford Contour with 94,000 miles that has yet to give me any major mechanical malfunctions since I purchased it back in 2003. I've been drooling over the prospect getting my six-pack abs back, even though I should be thankful for the two-pack I currently have, as well as the fact that (to my knowledge) I haven't developed any sort of major illnesses.

Then again, it is also wise to not become over-confident in your thanks as well. I felt that I would be a perfect candidate to work at iGourmet in West Pittston to help with their Holiday season efforts, but even after sending them a nice e-mail on Sunday with my resume attached in a word document, I have yet to receive a return e-mail or phone call. I was already giving thanks that those positions had opened and that the qualifications I was blessed with would have helped me to land one of them. Instead, I'm learning the hard way that I'm not good enough to work at iGourmet. I was so busy giving thanks for my qualifications that I lost sight of reality and started counting my chickens before they hatched. This is something to avoid as well.

Oy vey! Enough of my ranting. Happy Thanksgiving! I'm already looking forward to my grandmother's homemade German stuffing.

I have a fan? Woooo! LOL! Best of luck to you in your relocation; perhaps you'll be enjoying your next Thanksgiving in a warm new dining room a half-hour west along I-84.
