school is what YOU make of it. At any school, there is an education if you WANT it. Problem is that most kids don't have the interest and the teachers loose their drive to push them.

There were naturally a few faculty members who were clueless and only there because they "knew someone" (For example, one of my friend's teachers argued with the class that Benjamin Franklin was the 16th president and that Philadelphia was currently the capital of PA). However, the vast majority were very conscientious and cared deeply about their professions. Also, they weren't only there to "pick up a paycheck," as the taxpaying peons of inner-city Pittston would once again deceive you into believing. There was a time during my senior year that I was pondering suicide. My grades began to slip, I lost my job, I lost the love of my life, and my parents shunned me after finding out that I had the "gay disease." All seemed hopeless for me, and I'd often space out in class to envision my own death. However, thanks to the intervention of my very astute teachers, I'm still here today to bore you all to death with my incessant rants. At the very least, Pittston is home to some of the hottest-looking Sicilian chicks (and hunks) this side of the Poconos! (Too bad I'm more of a Northern Italian! LOL!) ![]() Last edited by ScranBarre; 04-23-2007 at 03:27 PM. Reason: Typo |

to a certain extent you're right that school is what you make of it but IT can be a good quality education or it could be a mediocre education such as Carbondales. The schools districts will give as much as is expected of them and no more. There are a large percentage of people on welfare and also a great many seniors living in Carbondale. Think either of them are going to make strong demands on the district? Doubt it.

I Feel the Mayor of Carbondale has been doing a great job. He seems to be a person of character, integrity, and wisdom. He has the vision and leadership to finally move the city in the right direction. This is the first time in my life that people in surrounding communities refer to the city as CARBONDALE not GARBAGEDALE. He has not raised taxes; he created many jobs, and finally created a sense of community pride for thousands. From what I have read in the papers (Carbondale News last fall) I do not know if I could say the same about D.R. (Ms. Race) However, I did waste time to look into the matter further, so I really don't know all the facts. Further, I am not one to attack a person's character to get something done; I would find a way to get involved. I do not know the Mayor; however, I do know 3 Council members (Lagana, Andidora, and Connor) and I sometimes ask them how I can get involved. I know that the city is better today than it was 3.5 years ago with this mayor.
Anyway..... The Skate Park was fully investigated in terms of still having caskets (A signed waver was given from St. Rose Church stating the caskets have been fully removed). This waver was absolutely needed to move forward with the project. I looked into it myself. Anyway, many years ago, this site was made into a public park. All graves were moved to another cemetery. Therefore, why are you blaming the Mayor? This vision was introduced by the Mayor. The council voted it in giving the youth of Carbondale an alternative to recreational activities. This will be tremendous for this part of town. It will increase business for gas stations, stores, etc. throughout the community. This I believe is nearly a $100,000 project will also increase the value of the homes in that part of town. Keep in mind I have no interest in using the skate park but I agree the Mayor and the city administration's view of diversifying our city's parks. Lastly, there were two public hearings that were published in the Scranton Times and Carbondale News. Where was D.R. to voice her opinion? In regards to the Chamber; it was a $650,000 grant from Gov. Rendell. The money was finally released 3-4 months ago. If she followed current events often enough and looked into the matter further she would see that there is major construction going on right now at the chamber. I did this myself. Further, if she was more active in the community she would know that it is CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) not CDGB. This is given to all municipalities throughout the commonwealth. It is at the discretion of the Mayor and Council to spend this money as they see fit. The Mayor makes proposals for the spending and the Council votes yes or no. Example, Dr. Marrzacco made a proposal for a park on the river and Justin and the rest of council liked the idea and voted for it. Therefore, she is wrong again. Again D.R.’s facts are wrong, it is a 5.6 million dollar project not billion dollars. This project is for Mine reclamation from the state and federal government (Wansack, Mellow, Staback, etc). The taxpayers of the city are not paying for this; it is the state and federal government. Also, the site was not chosen the Mayor. There was a feasibility study done years ago to see what should be done with the abandoned land and subsidence issue. Therefore, it was chosen by the state and federal officials to move forward with this mine reclamation project. This land in turn, can be developed by the Municipality. Almost half of the land is in Carbondale and can be used for development. Obviously, the Fed. State and local officials have investigated the subsidence issues not only in Carbondale but up and down the valley. They do not feel it is an imminent risk. It is up to the home owner to investigate the mine issue of their home and property and purchase mine subsidence insurance. We are not the only city to have these issues. Look at every municipality from Forest City to Hazleton. We are doing the same thing they are..... ENCOURAGE HOMEOWNERS TO PURCHASE MINE SUBSIDENCE INSURANCE. Mayor Taylor’s administration did not cause the mining issues. The owners of the mines did........ The $300,000 set aside for the city is like collateral "if the project does not come to fruition at least we still get this". This was negotiated by the Mayor. Keep in mind, I checked into this myself to get the correct facts. I am interested to know, what qualifications (Degree from what university, certification from where, etc.) D.R. has in mine reclaiming or business administration to be making these accusations. She may have documentations of issues, but she does not know the explanations as to why. There are many reasons from the State, Fed, and Local levels. She does have valid concerns, but not valid facts... Once again, I checked out both sides. I do understand and agree to her feelings for the Mine Memorial. Unfortunately most do not. Many people are only concerned with getting their streets paved, sewer lines fixed, keeping taxes low, and sprucing up our infrastructure. I feel the Mayor and Council are more concerned with what is perceived "needed items" and not at the point of "wish list items". Maybe she can create a fundraiser (Grants, bequests, donations, etc). The Y.M.C.A. raised 2.6 million so far for their Capital Campaign. Lastly, I feel that D.R. has personal issues with the Mayor himself. The City is not fully run by him. We do not live in a dictatorship society, we have a democracy .......There are also seven elected council members who make all legislative decisions based on the constituent’s concerns. They don't always agree, but they work together with each other and the mayor to move forward. Did D.R. ever go to the council meetings or call any of them personally to voice her opinion? Maybe she should stop throwing mud at our Mayor and focus her time on something more productive. I am a taxpayer in this city, and I make sure I investigate what our elected officials have done before I make statements even if I agree or disagree with them. I do not slanderize the Police or city officials with false or unsupported claims because that is Libel and ILLEGAL. So, I suggest that D.R. should investigate the facts further and be careful not to face more legal issues that would be based on Libel and Slander. Have I been in touch with certain Council Members? Absolutly. I walked right into Stabacks office as well. and More Legal Actions? Are you assuming as well. I don't even have a record Sunshine. But theres a few in action, and guess what? I'm not one of them. and Please you have insulted my Intellegence and I find it in your best interest to further investigate mainly for the reason i am writing from my own home, not Jail. And as Far as Mr. Taylor......my research and his faults are no longer in my hands, they have all been passed over to investigaters and Representatives, I just did the research and Damn I'm good at it. So further down the raod once our children are no longer feeding off contaminations, and the town doesn't flood from the East and the South, ya all can thank me later. Because it was me and my Concerns that are pushing the Mayor to look below instead of what we can built above. So Ya everyone it was me DAWN RACE that got that all started. Would you like to see proof....anytime. And by all means I am very interested in the information you have obtained, i think it would be good to match things up. |

Thanks for the CDBG info. I pushed for the SkatePark Project donated 2 years ago. That's why but under the Conditions of DEP, OSM and EPA. Due to the facts that those people died from several epidemics, symtoms which now could cause "Bird Flu" Like Symtoms. Also Documented, and Forensicly Proven. Now I have proof does Justin Have his papers all in Order as well. So when ya all take your Children to the Doctors and they say "Oh it's Just the "COMMON COLD" think again. And as far as the Skate Park, I'll get back to you all with the proper reports and investigation from the OSM and DEP. Lets just say for what ever purposes this Cemetery was moved and Overlooked in 1901 is beyond me and pretty morbid. But the facts are facts, and certain precautions should be taken into consideration. The Same with St. Rose Cemetery and The Breaker. Its like the "WesNiel" . I am only telling you the facts that, "THEY" don't want you to know. Yet don't want to fix. First things First is exactley where he should be starting. and that's Stabalizing the Valley, from Floods, Mine subsidences, and contaminations in our residential areas. That is my Point, thats why me and Justin do not see Eye to Eye. I'm PUSHING the Community Issues, He's only worried about the West side. I'm cramping his style with the truth and he doesn't like it. This is what people need to focus on. And thats the valley Flooding while the West Side 5.7 MILLION dollars is safe and Sound. look around the only thing standing will be our YMCA and civic centers with a Mote around it. and thats sad. I have also invited the community to a debate if they wanted to set it up. This is up to the community now to stick together and open there eyes. ask for a copy of the WEST SIDE PROJECT. How does that benifit us now? When the rest of the community poses greater problems then up in those grassy field they Call the Fall Brook Project. But Hey vote for Justin we'll be in an ACT 47 in no time. |

Well thank you for your opinions, It's about time someone stepped up to the plate, I have been waiting. And please Call me Miss Race. Miss Dawn Race. I had written you earlier but it didn't go through so I'm back. 1. You need to realize that intimidating approach does not work with me, nor my beliefs. 2. Blah Blah about the Miners, it's the research I was doing on my own that brought out the Mayors true colors. I just had a story. So by all means Thank you, but a memorial was long taken care of. It's what the Miners Left behind. Not only their Souls, but a mess of flooding, contaminations, health and safety precautions needed to be taken into consideration before Legumes and Ponds on the West Side. 3. And when was the Belmont investigated by the proper authorities. Last i look it was dug down 4ft. Bodies are buried 6 ft under. Not to mention the cemetery was moved in 1901, but not all were taken out. Why because people didn't care about them. "Get where i'm coming from"? 4. It is Forensicly Proven and Documented of what these people suffered from and the epidemics that took thier lives. So back up a bit. 5. While working on the No 2 Drift the crew noticed brown water coming quickly, who do you think faught for behind the Ben Mar to be repaired. ME? and what did they find...an old broken sewer pipe. It was my Hydrolic crew that repaired it and made it all pretty. No need to thank me. 6. I was also granted 50.000 dollars for the research on the First Pioneers. The woman who donated 50.000 dollars for a Skate park in 2005 was at the Miners Memorial. She donated it that day. 7. And as far as council meetings I am in touch with plenty of the council. Don't burn me anymore please. I was'nt a PTA mom as well. 8. And The truth will come out soon about what was written about me in the paper. Ya know the one, 110 girl beats up two 300 pnd Officers. If ya believe that one, I'll tell ya another one. 9. lets talk about the St. Rose Cemetery seeping into the park your Children play in. Yummy. 10. I'm for the Enviroment, Safety and Health of the community and worked damn hard on the research so that we may be granted Funding to fix these serious problems. I'm the one pushing those issues. Not Day dreaming about Legumes, ponds, and NEW developements on the WEST SIDE. Ya speak as if i could even tell you the names of the Inspectors and formans, not to mentioned I have already talked to them in 2004. So i'm pretty sure I know what i need to about the plan. I know its been Inactive, and I know when it went active. 11. And thank you for the Update on the West side Project.... and once I have already apologized for my "Billion Dollar" TYPO. 12. Again I worked on the project about the Miners, and it's called research, and studying, most of all Common Sense. Not to mention I don't need a degree, when i have Signed complaint forms signed from the DEP and OSM confirming the dangers of East side and South Side Mine Projects that the Mayor knew about. So when you ask what I have been doing, i have been well productive. And it's going public. 13. If i wasn't accussed of doing something i didn't do, to keep me quite before election time. I would have taken my Civil Service test and i would be making 35 dollars an hour as a mining Engineer. Its in my blood. But the CPD tryed to put me in Jail .....and guess what, I'm writing from home. soooooooooo...... 14. Anything else you feel you need to get straightened out. 15. You must live on the WEST SIDE huh? 16. All my information and anything i say is public information. So before you get yourself in any trouble by threatning me, you should look within your own ignorance and open your eyes. 17. Justin always intercepted my calls when any one would call to verify my findings 18. The Carbondale news would not take my story. We couldn't go public until the construction was complete, because of its location and the fear of children getting hurt. |

Miss Race,
First off, I am not trying to intimidate or threaten you. I am simply stating that people can misconstrue information the wrong way and you can get burned. Sometimes chat forums do not give the correct emotion. I do respect your opinions........ I am not challenging all of your facts; I simply stated that most people do not care about your issue. They are only concerned with what they can see above ground in their community. I do not live on the west side.... I live on the opposite side of the city.... I terms of being kept quiet from your point of view, I can't imagine that the CPD would try keeping things quiet. In case you are not aware, the mayor doesn't have much pull from the CPD. It is too bad that the Carbondale News will not cover the story. It does not surprise me...... They only cover what they create.... I wish there was another paper in town to keep the C'dale news on their toes. As I said earlier, the mayor did not pick the location of the project. It was going to be done regardless. He does have great expectations of the project as stated in the debate. This can create a whole new neighborhood or development in the city's confines. The more homes that go up, the more revenue the city gains. This results in fewer taxes for the residents and a huge boom in the city. This is textbook economics. It is also realistic that a man made lake can be built which revolutionize the city's demographics. This is a good thing and most people I am sure feel the same way. I would love to see dozens of $150,000 or higher homes built in any part of town. Since you say that you do not have a record, I am sorry to hear that you would not follow through with your civil service interests. Regardless of what is pending. However, even if you did pass the exam, you would still need and degree or certificate to move forward. You may have facts, but most people would not find you reputable due to your lack of civil engineering education. This is like the parent who has all the answers and cures to public schools. They have opinions, but lack an educational background to really have people respect their views. Unfortunate, but true. Further, have you considered running for office? The only way this will get done is if you are sitting in the big chair. People who share your concerns will vote for you. However I don't think you will get many votes not because of who you are, but because most people don't care about your issue. As stated earlier, there is no threat, the cemetery is vacant. I looked into this (Belmont Park) when the City was in the planning stages. I would think when they were doing soil removal up to four to five feet; the extremely heavy machinery would have fallen through. This did not happen. There is a signed certificate that states that from St. Rose Church that there is nothing there. Why don't you contact Msgn. Quinn to make things more factual? I do value the information that was given by the church. Again you keep blaming Mayor Taylor; the City Council consists of intelligent people share the same vision of bringing the city back to its once great glory. Do any of your council contacts share your view? I never heard or read anything from them making this an initiative. If this is such and emergency, why haven't I heard anything from the county, state, or fed governments. You say you been in contact with them since (I Think) 2004. Therefore I don’t agree and obviously, they don't either. Keep in mind, this is not ignorance, it is my opinion. You have yours and I respect that. It is a great country we live and great that we can agree or disagree in matters. It is nothing personal, I don't even know you..... GO TAYLOR AND THE ADMINISTRATION... Vote Taylor to continue the progressive thinking!!!!!!!! |
