Chiropractic care?
Well, it seems I find myself in the position of tryin' somethin' I've never used before.
Does anyone have any experience with any chiropractors in the Pocono Lake, Mt. Pocono, Blakeslee areas?
When a person is a newer resident of an area, doesn't work full-time outside the home, and realizes her PT is her current best friend....well, it's difficult to get that word-of-mouth info.
Sooooo, good folks of CD forum, what can you tell me about your experiences and recommendations?!?

As someone with lifelong back problems I have tried it all. Back surgery, steroid shots, and I even had an experimental injection into my disc from some plant. Out of it all, I had the least success with a chiropractor. They kept saying it will get better, it takes time, but I felt worse each time I left. Today I stretch and do strengthening exercise and pop the percocet for those times i'm laid up in bed.
That being said, my wife goes to Cohen Chiropractic in Kingston for a neck problem and she says it helps.

Hey, LVN...thanks for your response. I'm sorry things didn't go well for you.
Nothing is making sense. I had an MRI and CAT scan a couple of weeks ago. Seems I'm in good shape for a woman 'my age' . All the blood work looks good. Still the pain is there. ???
I've heard mixed reviews about chiropractic care. Geesh....I'm old enough to remember when voodoo would have been recommended by the medical community before a chiropractor.
It seems to be more accepted now. I really know nothing much about it. Just looking for someone gentle to trust in this area.

Sorry I don't have any suggestions to offer in your area, my chiropractor is down near Brodheadsville. However, my husband, my older son, and I have all been helped at various times by chiropractic care.
My husband did the medication, physical therapy, electrical stimulation, and epidural steroid route and got just as much relief from chiropractic - in fact, our orthopedist recommended he try it! I hope you get good pain relief no matter what you try.

Sorry to hear of your need for treatment. My experience has been that chiros are like any other profession in that there are great ones & awful ones. I've been horribly hurt by them & have had great success with but a few. I was mainly treated by them for low back/neck pain. I'm rehabing from a shoulder/neck injury & am going through PT now, too, but actually have even had PT's hurt me. One PT used to give me a migraine every time I saw her, because she used some sort of traction & manipulations on my neck that obviously wasn't in my best interest. Sometimes practitioners don't pay attention or listen to their patients, no matter their stripes. For my body, gentler is better & that's only given by someone who will listen & tune into what each individual needs.
Coincidentally, the best chiro I've ever seen is Dr. Richard Langdon on S. River St. in Plains. (right off the Plains exit on the Cross Valley). I've mentioned here before that when I visit the area, I drop into see him before I reach relatives' homes. No kidding. I actually call him from the road & his office is most accommodating in conveniently fitting me in while visiting. He's also the last one I see before my 330-mi drive back to Boston. I only wish he were closer to me.
He's got a new website, so check him out. If he's too far from you, he's a kind enough lad that I'm sure he'd recommend someone closer. I'm a cash payer as I have out-of-state insurance & my visits were $35. Last I saw him was 2-3 yrs ago. Can't wait to see him again. His Office Manager Teresa is a doll & his Massage Therapist Kara is very good, too. I forget her fee. If you call Teresa, she'll talk you through what he does. I hope he can help you.
BTW, acupuncture has always helped me greatly. I'm unsure where there's one in your area, but your yellow pages should help.
Best of luck & heal quickly... VV

I'm seeing a general practitioner for right now, LVN. I have an appt. with a neurologist this Tuesday. There was a wait time of over three months when I tried to book.
I've had films done, blood work, a stress test, the CAT and MRI, and have had 18 PT visits thus far. I'm probably forgetting something.
This has been a long, weird situation. Everyone just looks at me and shrugs.

Kitten's, Thank you very much!! This is a great starting point. I wish we were closer, but this doctor's location is still a doable....'cept in the snow. RT. 115 north from Blakeslee looks as if it could be a stinker in the winter.
There is a holistic center just down the road, but it looks sorta whifty from the exterior. Frankly, I'm ready to fire up a cauldron the backyard. Maybe it's time to simmer herbs and chant.

I am no doctor, and only offer my experience. That being said, everyone I have ever talked to, including GP's, they all said a neurologist is not a good choice for back and neck problems. They all directed me to a orthopaedist.
