I know the commuter train from the Pocono's to NYC is a myth, like Santa Clause and Unicorns, but I was wondering if there is any new information on it?

No specific mention of a Poconos to NYC train in the article, but Amtrack is looking to invest heavily in the NE rail corridor...so who knows!

I saw an interesting interview on the news the other night about the same type of system in CA...

They said that regardless of what is being said about its speed and time(in CA), it will become a political football and that any politician worth his salt will lobby for a station to be put in their city or town which will put them on the map so to speak, thus killing the commuting times and making it into a slow drawn out train ride that will inevitably keep people away from it and thus continue to keep commuters in their cars which with traffic will still be a shorter commute time..

Makes sense, we will see if any of the dates are real and I doubt we will see the train cross the Delaware and be in E. Stroudsburg by 2019, especially in this economy.

I just checked the revised plan and they are still neglecting NEPA. One of the proposed routes would have run right through the valley and you could have hopped a train in Scranton to either Toronto or to Harrisburg and then across the country. We could still have local rail that would take you into NJ, which is still seeing active work on the Jersey side, but then your commute is way too long to any of the really big metro areas. A bullet train branch from here to Newark/Trenton would work, as would Philly, but good luck with that.

Bullet train to Trenton? You'll see plenty of bullets in Trenton and Newark, but they won't look like a train...

Sigh , i'm starting to get a headache explaining this , but the New Plan combines the old HSR plan with the NE Master Plan with the state Plans...no one outside the NEC is getting anything faster then 125mph...

NE Master Plan , alot of the lines below are beginning their Phase 1 Pre-Construction or are under Construction... The Electrified NE Network will carry about 120,000 daily by 2030...and have a top speed of 125mph servicing a population of 40 Million. Most lines are cheap , the most Expensive seems to be the Lehigh line due to adding capacity to the Freight line...to support the Intercity line.

Lackawanna line
Lehigh line
Downstate Delaware line
Northwest Service
Coastal Jersey Express
Enhanced Lower Hudson line
New Haven - Springfield - Brattleboro
Cape Cod service
Downeaster Corridor to Bangor
Keystone Upgrade
Cross England Express
Concord Express
Virginia Regional Network

Only a train to NYC and possibly Philly make sense for Scranton/WB. Toronto or Harrisburg? Why?

But unless some billionaire sees fit to gift this, it won't happen any day soon.
