Be proud of what you have
I just want to chime in on all of the PA, NJ NY stuff I have been hearing. First of all I just bought land in TINK Wig is this a good area for decent quiet living and to raise a family? I am located in South Miami, originally from the woods of South Jersey and have lived in Boston, Cali, and others. For those who think any NY or NJ influx is bad and I do understand when crime comes people defend their territory, you have no idea what I see on a daily basis. You ever see people who don't belong here driving with Illegals hanging off of trucks and nobody speaks English. An emergency room visit takes over 10 hrs to be seen with the population. As bad as you may think rich snobby NYs maybe wanting a starbucks next door, prey to the Lord you do not have the influx that I drive through daily. I have to be here for certain reasons or else I would up in PA sitting in front of a campfire. That's all I want. I've been skiing 3 times up there and that's all I need to see compared to this. Miami can keep it's phony lifestyle and 90 degree temperature and it's crime. I am not a fan of multiculturaism, and I'm trying to be open as possible. But until you have your back broken realising America is being overcome you'l never understand. Embrace the PA lifestyle, the tristate nity has to stick together.

I am about 20 minutes from Hawley, where Tink Wig is located. It will probably be the polar opposite of Miami. I haven't been in Tink Wig specifically, but Hawley is a nice, small town, with a tiny downtown area, a few grocery stores, and many shops. There is a CVS and an Arby's, but that's it as far as any chains. There is a large park and the K-12 schools are very close by.

More like it
That's a good start. All you really need nowadays is a CVS and one of those big Walmart's. Some people don't like big buisness, but to people who make an average living they'll never stop going as long as the prices are cheaper. As long as their is nature, scenery and decent schools that's fine with me. I understand why people enjoy the city lifestyle and pace, but something gets lost when the trees are gone. Thanx

I live about 1/2 hr. away from your new home, if you are looking for nature, scenery, and decent schools, well you are in luck! You have hit all 3! Very rural area, but not a far drive to everything you will need.
I wish you the best of luck! TinkWig is not far from the beautiful family resort, 'Woodloch'. Gorgeous country, and plenty of trees!

HI!
Monroe county certainly has some pockets of problem areas but it is a big county so there are very nice areas also.
I live in Shohola, PA and we seem to stay pretty quiet over there.
One thing I wished I'd known when I moved to PA is that when you look at a community you want to see how many real estate agents and brokers live there. That is the BIGGEST tip off of the quality of the community. I wasn't in real estate when I moved here 5 years ago and I would have bought differently had I thought of that.
Now I work for Davis R Chant Hemlock Farms office and I'm the only person here who does not live in Hemlock.
Hemlock Farms is LOADED with agents and brokers so you can be guaranteed of 2 things, in my humble opinion: 1 - your property will hold value because none of these guys are going to let anything adversly effect their property values and 2. - You will get the best bang for your community dues $$.
Take Care!

Just a caution for people reading these posts looking for advice on where to live...Amelia, I'm sure you're a nice person and may only want to help bewildered out-of-staters find their special niche in PA, but the fact that you're a real estate agent who appears to be pushing Hemlock Farms could be a bit of a turnoff to some. You have posted on the NEPA forum several times recently, all promoting Hemlock Farms -- frankly, you appear somewhat biased. Sorry, just my opinion.

I agree!!
And it is obvious that she is doing searches in this forum because she is posting to very old threads. Just trying to get her name in every thread that mentions Hemlock Farms.

go to Stroudsburg & the Poconos PA news, sports, schools, entertainment, and shopping | poconorecord.com - The Pocono Record
it is the local paper, so you can read about the gangs, home invasions, and the shooting @ the local McDonald's last week...and don't forget about the insane taxes you'll pay...stay in Florida!

Yikes!!!!!!!!!!! I too am in Florida looking to go back up north. I've been here a little over a year and miss the seasons. Originally from Jersey. I've been talking to builders in Monroe but have started to look at Pike County. Can anyone tell me anything about Matamoras? Thanks

Matamoras has a bunch of sprawl around it - the town itself is pretty small, not familiar with crime or anything there. I go through Matamoras on my way to Port Jervis to hit the train to NYC! LOL. Just outside of Matamoras you'll find a Kmart, Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, Radio Shack, Fashion bug (?), Perkins, Wendys, McDonalds, Grand Union (? some kind of supermarket, I forget now! LOL), Staples, Hollywood Video, plus some other local shops. I used to go to Luhr's Hardware that is between Milford and Matamoras for that old fashioned "general store" type place...haven't been there in a while though.
I noticed Tink Wig mentioned in this thread - makes me smile as I grew up right near Tink Wig. It's a very quiet community in the woods - big lots, nice lake, and a pool - and cheap dues.
