Uh...? The original poster didn't even ask about the University of Scranton. They asked about Marywood, La salle, Seton Hill, and Mansfield. You all should try to stay on topic, and try to help out the poster who asked the question.

Since when do you make the rules?

I'm not trying to make any rules. I'm just saying that the original posters child is probably gonna go to Marywood or one of the other three mentioned colleges, and needs information on those schools. Not the Univ.of Scr.

Ya and the OP was in december of last year. If the parent is inquiring about Marywood then by all means the parent should be aware of the U of S. She was concerned about the drinking at Marywood and guess what most of the students of marywood that do party, party at the U of S.

She needs to know what the off campus and social atomsphere is and she asked.

You can't ask about Marywood partying and not be concerned about the proximity of the U. If she wasn't aware, she is now.

Lots of Wilkes students partied at Margaritaville and alot of Kings students partied at Barnum Place in my day. It all depended on which night of the week it was.

I only mentioned the U because I recall seeing/meeting substantial numbers of Marywood (Keystone & Lackawanna too) students who found their way to the parties in the Hill Section, which seemed relevant to understanding the social scene there.

The partying atmosphere is definitely not an indictment against the U of S's academics, very good school esp for health professions and I wouldn't go knocking the school my own degree is from. Partying and academics can go together for some students

thanks for all the postings. had forgotten that i posted here and just received a reminder. did hear about the u of scranton being more of a party school and that the marywood kids did head over there almost every weekend. was quite worried about the driving back and forth.

in any case, my son did choose la salle and loves the school. thanks again for all the tips and good luck to everyone.

La Salle is a great small school and nice campus. Although it's not in a very desirable area of NE Philly, my daughter who competed for 3 seasons of running (cross country, indoor track and outdoor track) every year for 4 years, ran her workouts through the surrounding neighborhoods every day without any incidents. It paid off as she contributed to four consecutive Atlantic-10 Cross Country Championships for La Salle.

Good choice by your son.

and if anyone knows how it is enforced and what the penalties are? trying to be a realistic parent and have to believe that most of the kids will want to do some partying the first three years (before they are 21). any insight?
Marywood's not the only school with a dry campus...all PA state schools are also dry campuses. Its good, in my opinion, keeps the partying out of the dorms where people are studying, sleeping, etc. Marywood is not a big party school, its in a nice upper-class section of Scranton, and I don't think any Animal House parties would be tolerated in the neighborhood.

Mansfield is a state school. Also a dry campus. Personally, I would recommend Mansfield. Its just as good of a school as the ones you listed, at a much lower price.

Its funny to read a lot of the posts on here. Kids dont drink on campus, if you drink in a dorm you arent cool. Parties happen off campus, and they happen at all schools. I have been to the U of S parties, MU parties, Bloom parties, ESU parties, hell I have been to a party at Princeton and they have all happened off campus.

Your thinking of East Orange...
South Orange and the area around Seton Hall is beautiful.
