I never thought of Bloom, but their job outlook seems just as bad as Scranton :\

I gotta tell ya, I've been watching this thread for a while and you're all missing the point. If you have to be talked into or out of something, you have no conviction. The greatest things this world has is in some way related to a person that was told "that's impossible". So, do what your gut tells you to do and move on. And if you really need help deciding about moving to NEPA or not, well, bless your heart.

There's no location in the world that's worth living in if you can't get work there and actually afford to live and prosper.

The reason I created this was to get some viewpoints about the northern valley towns because I've been out for years.

You go ahead and do what your gut tells you, I'll continue analyzing situations before I make a decision.

I never said not to analyze prior to making a decision of this magnitude. I'd suggest to spend a week in the area and then compare statistics from a reliable source in the areas of your interest. As far as employment...I don't know your profession, but overall, the job market is similar to the rest of the area, depressed.

Scrantons financial situation will only continue to get worse.

The debt(long term) and budget shortfalls will continue to force tax increases and higher fees on a dwindling tax base.

Its a vicious cycle with no end in sight.

There are few well paying jobs and you can expect a siginificant decrease in salaries here vs NJ.

If your looking for great job prospects then your looking in the wrong place currently. Your profession will have a large bearing on your employability in this area...Scranton and the northern towns all have school issues and I would NEVER suggest someone move into Scranton due to the existing debt issues. Anywhere in the Abingtons is where to go if the schools matter. I don't think that anywhere outside of Scranton is really "walkable"...thus the reason I suggested Bloomsburg....which fit all of your criteria. The jobs situation is no worse there than in the rest of NEPA.
