SWB, I agree that housing is still ok in NEPA but when you count in what it costs between heating, gas and commuting....it is not worth it. How the heck do these people commute do it.....especially in the bad weather??? Not my cup of tea....quality of life is what matters. LOL, wait till they start re-doing housing assessments...like they are doing in NJ....then the masses will follow.

I'm loving my electric heat...
1600 sq ft house, on a budget of $200. a month, I run 4 air conditioners in the summer right into the fall and we put up a HUGE Clark Griswold type Christmas display.

Yes, I do love the electric. First off........no oil furnace problems to contend with.
I remember in NJ waking up Christmas morning, with NO HEAT......Santa do you hear me?
Amongst other times........those nozzles clogged up something terrible. Especially when we'd order from one particular company.
Our daughter had the same problem. The "big" company she dealt with for many years, and lots of difficulties, never told her that a different grade would help in the winter.
For years she had to keep calling them over to unfreeze or unclog the nozzle, or line.
The new company, said outright that .........a different substance was added to prevent all that!! Her first company, made a bundle of money on not telling her.
With electric you can head out for weeks at a time and know that there is no worry of a furnaces oil going empty, or shutting down.
Many rooms can be turned off, as long as no water lines are involved.
I've had company say they were waiting to hear something come on.........LOL
" Like what?" I'd ask........." there is nothing to go on"..........
They have either had oil or natural gas, and there was always some type of furnace.

I Love Pa..........I want to see a picture of the Griswalds? LOL
One time in NJ I was driving home from work. I had dreams in my head of all white lights, maybe just a wreath on the door.
I hear music, and I see off in the woods, two people.......clamoring around the roof...
Singing, Laughing.........
The Eldest daughter, and my hubby decided to play...Ji-Ji- Ji- Jingle Bell Rock and put
Green lights on the ( barn type) roof in the shape of a TREE.
I got out of the car and just stood there, in amazement.
What can you say to two people singing Jingle Bell Rock and making my roof into something out of the land of WHOVILLE............
Ah, Ah, guys.............It was going to be all white this year........It sure was.
Needless to say......It remained a tree..........and we still laugh when Ji-ji-ji Jingle Bell Rock comes on today.

NEPA was a bargain in the 1970's/80's.....everything seemed to be cheaper including gasoline and utilities. Sadly inflation has caught up and since NEPA is pretty much an "outer borough" of NYC it isn't the bargain it used to be. Keep in mind that over-development of the area has increased the electric/natural gas demands for the area which leads to higher prices. As for Turkey Hill, convenience costs money.....I do without whatever until I can get to a grocery store.

Summering, I'll have to post pictures! He 'scaled' down this year, no lights on the house roof, the ladder was broke. The poor things are getting buried in the snow already! I think Baby Jesus is lost! My hubby backed up into a soldier this morning and he was mad!! He can really get just like Clark when the lights wouldn't go on! It's a lot of work, OK when he was younger and had a little more time, but he works like 90 hrs a week and free time is very limited and it takes him almost 3 weekends to do. But in the end it is worth it. I just wish we lived on a more heavily traveled road so more people would see it.

Well, I might just be up this mountain for a full week anyhow.........
The plow on the tractor will not cut into this ice layer. We did get it down with the last ice and snow. But this one........nope. ¿
Jesus, .......Oh MY........Save the Jesus!
I won't do my Christmas tree with hubby anymore. Mr. Calm and Kool.......seems to loose it along with the lights (LOL)........
The only thing I might have him do is check what lights work, what doesn't I ask him to just throw out.....then and there. Then I turn on the music and do the tree "myownself"
as far as the lights go. It is so,so peaceful........I'd recommend it to anyone.
The poor solider huh........Hope he can return to his fine self.
I usually have the sled out with the wrapped presents in it.........for some reason its not out.......Does that mean Santa will be late?..........I think so?

Ok..........this thread I just checked is about GAS...........now where can I go from here.........Ah..........Yep, hope we don't run out of gas trying to plow.....emmmmmmm.

I haven't gotton our bill yet, but I am very a-scared!!

We are new to this house, and I have no idea what to expect, but with an open foyer and open family room, I am bracing for the worst.

I keep it at 66-68 during the day and at night put the downstairs down to 60 and the upstairs at 66.

Wish me luck!
