Default What a Winter

I think we are in for a very interesting winter. Talk about the Nor'easter this Thursday and the other storm predicted for over the weekend. I can remember much snow in NEPA in the 1960's and 1970's.......but I have not seen the amount of ice as I have this winter. It is just great to catch up, do some things inside the house with the fireplace going with some hot coccoa, whip cream and minature marshmellows!!!!

I don't mind the snow at all, but ice is what scares me.

Did anyone happen to see Joe Snedeker's "Hype-O-Meter" on the noon news today on WNEP? The sound effects of women screaming were hillarious!

I heard that December was going to be the kicker this year for us in terms of snow. Then in late Jan and Feb it is supposed to be mild with above average temps for those months. We shall see. Get ready everyone for some shoveling!!!!!!

Paul, I love Joe! His Hype-O-Meter is great too. I hope it doesn't snow us in on Sunday. We have plans! We will be down in Allentown. Do you know what it will be like down that way on Sunday???? Maybe Milo knows LOL

Default What a winter

Yea, I'm a little worried with all of the wintery weather. I'm headed into the area Thursday and out on Sunday for a relocation trip. Talk about picking the best days to travel. Luckily I'm flying in and out of Harrisburg, although I'm not sure how much better that will be. How is the Pocono region as far as upkeep of the major roads in snow removal? I've been living in Colorado for the past few months, so I'm used to the snow--just not the ice.

Usually during Nor'easters the Lehigh Valley gets snow, but not nearly as much as we do, as temperatures hover nearer to freezing (often times sleet mixes in there as well). In our area the HIGH temperature is only going to be in the mid-20s, so the snow will start sticking to paved surfaces as soon as it falls. I've heard 6-12 tossed around locally for Sunday, which might mean 4-8 in Allentown with some sleet mixed in. The odd thing with these storms is that it could be snowing in Tannersville and raining just an hour east in North Jersey. That rain/snow line changes depending on how near or far these storms get to the coast---there have been times when the Poconos have been so close to that rain/snow line that they get just a slushy mess of sleet while Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is just far enough west to get hammered. Then there have been times when storms have stayed just far enough on the coast so that the Poconos had plowable snow while Scranton/Wilkes-Barre gets jipped with perhaps 1-3 inches.
