Should the Veterans' Memorial Wall in Scranton be Relocated?
I read with great interest in this morning's Scranton Times-Tribune about city architect and Vietnam veteran Eugene Ogozalek's quest to have the new veterans' memorial wall on Courthouse Square in Downtown Scranton relocated to Nay Aug Park, where it will be less imposing.

How paranoid are we that we think a county courthouse needs to be "protected" by that monstrosity (in a relative sense; the monument would be much nicer just about anywhere else--if not Nay Aug, then McDade Park, another county property?)

Agreed. As I said I voted "I'm not sure" because I have yet to see this up close and personal, but I have a feeling it has transformed the square from being a park-like oasis to being a forboding fortress. If the county wanted this so badly they could have and should have done so in collaboration with Mayor Doherty to put it in the city's Nay Aug Park instead so that he would scrap his plans for the city's own memorial in that park (at a time when it is very cash-strapped).
I doubt very much Usama bin Laden is sitting in a cave right now in Kabul thinking "I want to take out that Bob Cordaro character."

While I agree the terrorism threat on the Courthouse is probably minuscule, lots of people always just jump onto Al Qaeda as the only terrorism threat, but remember good old Tim McVeigh wasn't working for the Taliban, last time I checked. You could always have some Lackawanna County wacko, who might want to do something crazy/stupid because they feel the County did them wrong.

Speaking of DD and city council, where has Dan been? I've been worried sick about him. For as much as he and I clash because he thinks I'm in the mayor's pocket (which I'm not), and I think he's in Pilchesky's pocket (which may or may not be true), it's hard not to be concerned. Maybe now that Daron Northeast is leaving his neighborhood and the flood control project is about to get underway he doesn't have much to complain about?
In any event, Merry Christmas to the Hubbard family, wherever they may be.

Computer problems that have been solved by a new laptop. I never said that I ever thought you were in any pocket and I take insult to you thinking that I am not my own man. I do what I do for my family and neighbors and everyone else comes second. Daron might be moving but not for at least 2 years and the flood project regardless of what the times says has not started in my immediate area and isn't supposed to for a while. There is plenty to compalin about Paul but I don't see it as complaining as much as I see it as a right.

This is what the square looked like, circa 1900-1910. It's not THAT bad, but I sure hope they plan on sodding the rear and sides of the building. You can't really sit in flower beds.
