I have been told of a story of an old college friend who recently took his girlfriend and a few of my friends to an old abandoned race track/ drag race strip, which he claims was abandoned in the 1950's, located near Wilkes Barre. I was also told the place is almost completely intact, with a concession stand, grandstand etc, and the actual drag strip in good condition. I was wondering if any other info could be provided on this, as well as other abandoned places in NEPA,as throughout the years I have heard various stories, ranging from an abandoned airport, to an abandoned arena/gym, various "Dark Rides" from amusement parks, as well as other weird or thought to be haunted places. On a side note I have been to the old West Mountain Sanitarium, and the Stage Coach Inn, before it was burnt to the ground..but pretty much looking for some leads/info from any area. Thanks and Merry Christmas

Ghost Town In The Glen or Rocky Glen as some called it, is a ruin found in Moosic. Popular during the 60's and 70's it is now a vast amusement wasteland.

Side note: they used to hold drag races on the ice at Lake Naomi years ago; I guarantee that you'll find no physical evidence of that! Mebbe someone has old photos though....
I understand there's trace remains of an old amusement park in the Hazelton area.....either Lakewood or Lakeside Park at Barnesille, I think. My parents attended dances there, dancing to the "Big Bands" of the era, including the famous Dorsey Brothers, who were natives of nearby Shenandoah PA. There's no trace of Sans Souci Park between Wilkes-barre and Nanticoke. It's now the location of Hanover Township H.S. along the Sans Souci Parkway. |

Not a park, but you should go visit concrete city in Nanticoke before it is torn down. The stairs to nowhere always freak me out in the houses, even though I know why they are there.
Or you could go visit abandoned mines, pretty neat stuff there. www.undergroundminers.com Although torn down now, visiting Bethlehem Steel after it closed was one of my favorite places to see. Parts of the place looked like they just locked the door and walked away with everything left behind. |

For whatever reason, interest is growing in the Drag Lodge; I've seen comments on a few other boards I visit. As for Rocky Glen, it's long gone, and the land is being used for a housing development. Well, I shouldn't say long gone, some of the rides made it to Knoebels and are still in operation today.
