Hooters is the last thing we need. If you're really desperate to pay to see some "hooters," we have plenty of "gentlemen's clubs" around, and if you want crappy wings, you can just go to Kelly's.

I just dined at the Buca di Beppo in Whitehall, Lehigh County last month, and I really enjoyed my experience. The cheesecake I enjoyed at the King of Prussia Cheesecake Factory was simply DIVINE!

Isn't Costco pretty much the same as Sam's Club?
I think there may be a Costco around Stroudsburg...maybe some of our posters from the Poconos could correct me if I'm wrong.

We're also getting a Ruths Chris Steakhouse soon at the Mohegan Sun Casino and the third Johnny Rocket's in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will be opening there as well in the new wing of the casino.

Why?
Why this whole thread? Why would you want more chains in the area just to look like everywhere else? Especially all the restaurant chains - overpriced, gross food! I live in a mid-sized, mid-west city now with nothing but chain everything and this place has no soul! It's part of the reason I'm excited to move to Scranton.
I suppose if they really planned well and put them all in the same place -- far far away from downtown....

the big chains are big chains because a large majority of Americans visit them. it would be impossible for a business to become so large without the support of the American people. Chain stores do not grow on trees, they grow on their patrons dollars.
They also cater to the "fear your neighbor, live in a bubble" climate of modern America. Wide open brightly lit parking lots, clean massive buildings that have the space to have more open areas inside with wider aisles, and high tech security camera systems that constantly monitor and record the premises.
Its very understandable that many people do not care for these places, and living in an area chock full of chain stores i can agree to with you that they homogenize an area. But they are also the dream of someone who worked hard to get their business off the ground and successful.
Take walmart for example, and it doesn't matter if you like the place or not. in 1962 sam walton opened the first walmart. just 46 years later the business has grown to become Americas largest retailer, and has stores open world wide. That's a pretty amazing feat for one guy opening his own store in Arkansas.
