I found that just surviving was a noble fight
I once believed in causes too
I had my pointless point of view

So he can't understand why his heart always breaks
And his honor is pure and his courage is well

And he'll go to the grave as an angry old man
Yes there's always a place for the angry young man

In 1996 developer Daniel Siniawa helped convince Dickson City to spend $2.5 million to build Commerce Boulevard. Of course he cut corners, he should have designed it for 5 continuous lanes, 2 in each direction and a turning lane or median in the middle, like Highland Boulevard in WB Twp. is today. He did a halfass job, and started adding more lanes here and there, where he needed them. They should just widen the lower part from Borders down to Main St. to 5 lanes. Just call Danny Boy up and tell him to get that done chop, chop!

Daniel Siniawa has never failed to disappoint me in his projects, and I was shocked to have seen his grandson coming on here a few months ago in his defense. His company wasted no time in ravaging Dickson City's open space for the poorly-planned mess of big-box retailers we now see up there in the name of the almighty dollar. Then he starts promising the "pie in the sky" in terms of revitalizing local communities with mixed-use projects that have been on the drawing board for years, causing residents to become discouraged and saddened, just as I have now become after waiting for years for these 100+ penthouse condos to come to help reinvigorate Pittston's downtown waterfront.
He had no delays in turning Dickson City into the suburban wasteland it is today, but in terms of giving back to the very same core communities his Dickson City projects helped to destroy, he falls very short in my book. At this point in time I'm wondering if we'll see the commuter rail link to Hoboken and the widening of I-81 as realities before the Murray Complex, Pittston Waterfront Condos, Pioneer Plaza, etc. are completed. I'm sorry to buck the trend here, but I get more excited over the prospect of a major mixed-use project coming to reinvigorate struggling downtown areas than I do about MORE low-wage paying big-box stores causing traffic congestion and the further demise of traditional Main Streets. As I speak I have just learned that two more Wal-Marts are being built near my home---a supercenter in Pittston Township in a new shopping center and a regular store just across the river in Exeter. Why?
Mr. Siniawa has let a lot of people down, including myself. I used to be a rabid supporter of Downtown Pittston's renaissance. I have since given up hope on ever seeing Tomato Town being a decent place to live, which is why I'm pulling up stakes after college and further contributing to its demise via the Brain Drain. Mr. Siniawa has since announced two new projects for Downtown Carbondale, but until he starts delivering on the promises he made years ago to revitalize Pittston and Wilkes-Barre, people in Carbondale shouldn't hold their breath. All I'm hearing about as an excuse is "red tape." For God's sake Downtown Atlanta is building a massive mixed-use project called "Atlantic Station" that has taken seemingly less time to complete than two dinky condo towers in Pittston or a hotel in Carbondale. Why? It's just very disappointing, to say the least.

Really? Now he's even further down on my list. I'd like the chance to grind with Sherry! I can already picture us doing the "rump bump" and having her knock me over!

I guess I can understand if you are against some of the other progressive projects that he is in to, but to say that the big box mall is all bad is not looking at all the pros. I have to disagree, I believe what he developed was progress.
People in this area are gun shy, and rightly so. They live with the giant piles of Culm that stretch the horizon, because they symbolize an era where heavy industry screwed them. Kids ride their bikes and 4 wheelers on these hills of distrust. Just look at this Ethanol debacle. These are the safest, cleanest, and brightest forms of new heavy industry, which our current future has to offer. We are not going to give up the auto, so we need to adapt ways to make it better, and this is one way. It makes the environment cleaner. If every car in the valley burned E85, the air would be cleaner. There is no reasoning with the folks that are against this, and that's what is killing the future of the community. Lack of reason. Nobody ever says what they want, just what they don't want.
The new shinny Eynon Drug Store will always be a blessing. And to a community that will always distrust heavy industry, this may be all we are going to ever see. Allot of low paying, second jobs were created for the community. The young can be employed, in a capacity, if they wish to remain. Shopping is happiness. Like it or not. This area is the epitome of consumption. There are too many restrictions, and too much lack of reason, to get the industry we need here, to ever reproduce the glory days of heavy industry that were once here.
I loved the old Globe Store, but, in reality the Globe Store was the beginning of the Big Boxer. This developer offered a bigger and brighter Globe Store. The ascetics are a matter of taste.

I don't think turning Dickson City into a suburban wasteland is such a bad thing. It does serve a purpose. People need to shop somewhere. That area brings lots of commerce and jobs to the Scranton area. It also brings traffic, but that's the price you pay for progress. It was going to happen sooner or later as the population of Lackawanna and the surrounding counties have grown over the last 20 years.
