Viewmont Mall Dickson City road surface is a Disgrace
I have lived in the area for 4 years now, and I am appalled by the condition of the roads/asphalt of the Viewmont Mall in Dickson City. This must be the highest revenue generating area for DC, and one of the highest in the area. And because of this you would assume that they would maintain this surface to an acceptable & satisfactory condition. I'm sure the job was suspect from the beginning, but come on.
This thaw will really put the pressure on now that the asphalt will pop even more.
They also need to move to a cleaner de-icing method. All these dirty grits are nasty. There is better and less costly technology available. Just look at PennDot.
Who ever is responsible should really get on the stick and offer a satisfactory service to the patrons that are dropping their checks into this crater.

Viewmont Drive, from Route 6 all the way down to Main Ave, is not the responsibility of Dickson City to maintain. Its a privately-owned road....owned by the owners of the Viewmont Mall. Its their responsibility to maintain the road. I do agree, it is a disgrace. But you need to complain to the mall owners on that one...not to Dickson City borough.

Dickson City at-large is still ineptly-run though. The Saturday before Christmas I was trapped for over a half-hour trying just to get out of the Best Buy parking lot because there is no signalization where the driveway intersects with Viewmont Drive (as there should be). Drivers attempting to turn left onto the congested roadway were unable to and held up all of the drivers who wished to turn right behind him (including myself). Dickson City could have easily utilized its tax revenues to assign police officers to help direct traffic throughout the retail corridors. They did not. Why?

Maybe there should be a light, but I am always amazed at the STUPIDITY of drivers in this country. Why this driver could not have turned into the flow of traffic and then turned around in a parking lot that DID have a signal is beyond me, but I see it all the time. They should have known to do it, you should have told them to do it after the first 5 mins. This is one of the reasons I say that ALL cars should be a stick shift and tempermental; it would keep everyone who can't drive off the road.

Viewmont Drive is privately owned. The Viewmont Mall owns it and is responsible for it....I would assume that includes traffic signals as well.

If DC benefits from the Viewmont Mall, than don't they own some responsibility? I also agree with the signal issue. Will it take a few more accidents, and middle fingers to get some change on this?

I have to wonder how much DC actually benefits from the large number of stores and restaurants in that area. There are way too many things crowded together in a small area up there, causing a traffic nightmare. The DC police probably spend their entire day on fender benders from all the clueless drivers, plus constant shoplifting calls from the stores. They probably have to pay quite a few extra police officers compared to other local towns its size, either that or the residents of the town have to put up with less public safety from real crime while the police are tied up with the women in SUV's getting in fender benders outside of the mall or the clowns shoplifting from Wal-Mart.
That whole shopping area is a lesson in poor planning. The roads are inadequate for the amount of traffic, and there are way too many stores/restaurants/etc crammed into a small area. But the DC government or zoning board or whatever probably overlooks these problems in the name of more tax $$$.

This is what I am getting at. They are collecting the taxes, they should be able to help, or help direct the maintentance.

They should at least force Viewmont to properly maintain the road. There are potholes on that road big enough to swallow a small car.

Also, with Viewmont Drive, it would be tricky deciding which town would be responsible for which parts of the road. Some of the stores along the lower end of Viewmont Drive...such as Sam's Club...are actually in the city of Scranton, as the city line runs right right through there. And I, as a Scranton resident, would not want my taxes paying to maintain a road that is mainly used by people going to spend money in the suburbs rather than the city.
