I guess I'm looking for something cheap but nice and clean and modern. Maybe, if you have any ideas you could write to me privately. I'm looking for something around $700 or less with 2 or more bedrooms and more than one bathroom. I'm moving up from Alabama after my ex husband finds a good place to live. Yes, I'm getting back with my long lost ex husband after 32 years! Now I just need someplace nice to live up there before I pack up and move. Is there any places with land for rent? I'd love to have a garden. I'm going to try to revive my decorative painting on wood business, so I'd need a workshop or garage or both. Are people still interested in arts & crafts up there? Or is the economy really bad up that way? If anyone has any comments about the best area to live in, or the worst areas to avoid living in, I'd love to hear about all of that. Please, I need your help and wisdom. Moving is a very big deal for me (I've had 3 back surgeries and moving is going to kill my back) and I want to only move once, not have to move repeatedly in the next few years. I'm hoping to find the perfect place right away, that's why I need your wisdom about that area. Thank you everyone. I'm new here and I hope putting this up here is okay. I love all the photos of that area that everyone has put up. They make me think I'm not making a mistake moving back up to that area. I lived in Brodheadsville up until 1978 and it sure has changed since then. My mom still lives up there, and I haven't been to visit since 1991. (I know, shame on me, but every other year I seem to be having some sort of surgery on my back, so it's hard to travel.) Anyone have any ideas for me on where to move to? Factoryville sounded nice, but is there any homes for rent there? Modern homes, with dishwashers and off street parking... I just can't parallel park. Oh well, I've gone on enough. Forgive me the long post. I just wanted to give you a very brief history. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Karla

Hi Karla

I say do it! The area is beautiful and you will find what you are looking for.
There are plenty of homes available for rent in the area and lots for sale too!

I was hoping for a little bit more information than that. Oh well, I guess I should start a separate post anyway. What are the "bad parts" of that area? The places I should avoid looking for a house to rent? Or isn't there a bad section? And is there any houses that allow cats for $700 or under?

"Bad" part of Wyoming County? I don't really think there is such a thing. Granted as a rural county some residents do their fair share of drinking/smoking/drugs, but by and large violent crime is a non-issue in that area. The last murders I remember happening there were of a son who killed both of his parents and his brother at the family homestead near Laceyville. You may end up with some teenagers smashing your mailbox or rednecks doing donuts on their ATVs on your property without permission (as was commonplace even in my own suburban area near Scranton), but there's no real "safety" issues you need to be concerned about in Wyoming County that I'm aware of.

I'd recommend posting an ad under "Housing Wanted" on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre CraigsList message board detailing your budget, that you have a cat, your space requirements, your estimated move-in date, your desired town(s), etc. and let prospective landlords find you. Most of Wyoming County is comprised of single-family owner-occupied homes, but I know in Factoryville you may have more luck finding rentals due to the proximity of Keystone College in neighboring La Plume. Once you start heading further south and east down Routes 6 & 11 closer to Clarks Summit the prices start edging higher and higher, so you'd want to stay close to Factoryville if you want any hope of that price range.

Best of luck!

Default Tunkhannock

I am sorry you are facing this type of thing and sorry that your family has become stuck in such a situation. My advice to anyone anywhere is
dont do anything that will draw attention to yourself or your family.
Dont get involved in things that draw attention by the law and always be sure you have a good lawyer and family and friends who know you and your character. The friends and family you keep speak up for someone.
I grew up going to this area and I even have relations that were troopers and they were honest but serious about their job. But times change so I can speak for now I do know that one did not mess with the troopers or those in authority because it was not advisable period. My aunt who owned a local establishment the marine room in nearby lake winola was murdered and I do know the law did everything possible to find the men responsible and see they were convicted and they did this quickly. I commend them for that. I always felt safe in the area and even after her murder I felt safe knowing the law did not mess around when it came to people breaking the law. That is a good thing because it keeps people safe from criminals. Perhaps your best advice is to seek good legal council outside of the area.

I grew up and still live in a small town not to far from Tunkhannock and I do not think it is as corrupt as the 1st poster made it out to be. I am not saying there isn't some corruption but what town doesn't have it??

I had a family member that had dealings with Children and Youth in Tunkhannock and they were a piece of cake compared to the agency in Wilkes-Barre. As for the cops, I can't say - I haven't had to deal with them in years.

As a teenager and young adult (late 70's and early 80's), I hung out in Tunkhannock and I love to reminisce with my friends on the things we did: going to the roller skating rink, Shadow Brook, Tastee Freeze, hanging out in Murphy's parking lot (that is when everyone seemed to have Mopars), drag racing through town and hiding our beer when the cops would pull into the parking lot. And if you happened to get caught with beer, the only thing the cops would do is take your beer and tell you they better not see you the rest of the night. Of course, a lot has changed since my younger years, I wouldn't want to get caught drinking or with beer in the car now!

I still enjoy taking a ride through Tunkhannock and going for a footlong hotdog and rootbeer float (with chocolate ice cream).

I would recommend Tunkhannock or any of the other small towns in the area, to anyone that wanted to start a new life or just a layed back way of living. I certainly enjoy mine.

I certainly remember the murder of your Aunt all to well. That was such a brutal and senseless crime. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Hi, my husband and I know all to well how bad the corruption with government employees is. My husband has been imprisoned since June lst for something he is completely inocent of but because a very high profile office holder was involved him and I have been made out to be Bonnie and Clyde.
I am expecting to be imprisoned this week for a very far fected story they made up about me. They completely reversed both our situations to benefit their obvious plan of corruption and conspiracy to protect a very high named man. Sorry he is dead, but he was at fault 100% and I have the physical proof and have put it in the highest hands of the government and spread it throughout the U.S.

When injustices are being plagued upon "We The People" should all be knowledgeable of such information. “ We The People” vote and put into offices individuals we trust, expect to be honest, true to their words and to protect all with fairness and equality. It seems these days the brotherhood of government employees protects each other to any extent and at any cost to “We The People”. These individuals feel that because they are appointed to protect the law, they are the law. They do what ever it takes to protect each other from having their great names tarnished and keep each other out of the troubles they are in. Only, they are building a pyramid of conspirators, a work of art called "Government Corruption" something we have been hearing a lot lately. Sooner than later this pyramid will tumble and “We The People” will be responsible to re-build the government. Hopefully it will be built with true, good, honest people. Until this time we, must stand together and not participate in their cover-ups, letting them know, we are not blind but in fact our eyes are wide open.
