Found this in Scranton Times:

Dalton crash sends two to hospital

DALTON — Charges are pending against a Nicholson man who sped into a sport utility vehicle on Routes 6 and 11 on Tuesday morning, according to state police.

James Wagner, 23, was traveling west at a high speed in a Mitsubishi Eclipse when he slammed into the Dodge Durango of Jesse Lord, 17, of Dalton, who was pulling out from Maple Street at 11:25 a.m., police said.

The SUV rolled over several times. Both vehicles sustained severe damage, and both individuals were taken to Community Medical Center with injuries, police said.

Default Hmm, I wonder if there was a baby involved?

My DH said he saw the young woman crying for her baby and the carseat was in bad shape. I sure hope there wasn't a baby in that vehicle.

It's possible that the 17-year-old boy was driving his mother's Durango with an unoccupied car seat still strapped in the back and his mother rushed to the scene and was crying "my baby" over her seriously injured teenager, not his younger sibling, who wasn't in the car at the time. Believe me, "auntie", car accidents are half the local news around here because of all of the DUIs, road rage offenders, and other idiots running amok, and if a baby were injured or God forbid kiled, the local media would have been all over it until the funeral. I myself was violently rear-ended last summer getting off of I-81 and seem to have close-calls on a weekly basis, especially with folks swerving in their SUVs while yakking on cell phones.

I am glad that the baby wasn't in the car!

Or maybe Jesse is not a boy? When memoriesbre mentioned a young woman near the accident, my first thought was that Jesse was a woman. The ST article doesn't say, and the name could be used for either.

On another note, it must be horrible for you to be terrorized by all those evil SUV drivers! Thankfully, there are lots of drivers of small cars, because I've heard that they are absolutely perfect (oh, except for the ones that routinely pull out in front of other drivers while yakking on their cell phones). Seriously, a large portion of drivers love their SUV's and they aren't going away anytime soon, so it would probably be best to get over your phobia of large vehicles. If you are having that many close calls, maybe some driving classes would be a good idea.

...and maybe some anger management classes would be good for you. You constantly try to strike up arguments with me for no reason at all.

I'm so sorry if I angered you. My comment was only meant with the best intentions. You seem to mention alot of problems with driving and SUV's.

Yes, and I agree that I can get quite annoying with those sorts of complaints. However, in this context I was not meaning to belittle those with SUVs---just those who chat/text while driving in general, regardless of vehicles. It bothers me more when SUV drivers are committing this offense because I was rear-ended by a distracted SUV driver, and the damage to my small car was likely much more immense than it would have been if it were a distracted motorist in another small car. His SUV only had a scratch on it. I hold people who drive large vehicles, whether they be tractor-trailers or yes, even just SUVs, to a higher standard for safe driving because their vehicles have more power to kill other people. Yes, SUVs may seem safer to those driving them, but for those in smaller vehicles we can't help but picture ourselves as roadkill if one is coming at us! To this day I tense up when I come down that very same offramp and there's someone tailgating me. The next time someone slams into me there I won't be so understanding and forgiving I was with my neck pain and time off from work the first time and a lawsuit will be filed this time.

Sorry for the rant, but when I see people in Escalades, Hummers, or even 18-wheelers texting while driving it really irks me. Do they not realize that they have a much greater propensity to kill people?

Sorry, I guess I just disagree and feel that EVERYONE should be held to the highest standards. When I see some of the young drivers in small cars talking and texting on cell phones and performing stupid maneuvers, I feel that at least my large SUV will give my children some protection from their stupidity in the event of an accident.
