I'm thinking about buying a vacation home in Albrightsville (specifically in the small Jonathan Point development right by the Penn-Kidder school). I've spent a little bit of time in the Poconos, but I hadn't heard of Albrightsville until I started looking at homes. Is there anything I should know about the reputation of the area?

I heard a rumor that the frogs don't taste good! Just kidding! Sorry; I can't help.

It's a cute area. Gets a little rough in the winter because of the altitude, and 903 isn't always kept as well as it should be, but if you have 4WD you should be ok except during icy times.

I have heard things about break-ins at vacation homes, not Jonathan Point but at Towamensing Trails, but I think that is a risk where anyone leaves their home for a period of time. Just make sure you take the necessary precautions, maybe have someone mow the lawn etc so the place looks lived in while you are not there.

There's also this interesting story from Albrightsville:

Haha Yep! I went to see the tombstone once. It's pretty cool. The schoolhouse where the one guy taught is still standing too. I think it's some kind of hunting and fishing club or something.

I live off of 903 more towards Jim Thorpe. There have a been a lot of break ins in Towamensing this winter as well as some in my HOA and few neighboring ones along 903.

Honestly, I find 903 is pretty well kept. There have been very early mornings where the plow hasn't passed yet or yet to come back, but in general, a more than decent job is done with plowing.

What I really want to know if when is the darn Turnpike entrance opening?? The opening date has changed 4-5 times in the 2 years I've lived here.

We looked at Jonathan's Point before we bought. Nice development. I have a friend from college whose family has had a home there for years. They absolutely love it. Very convenient to the ski areas, restaurants at Big Boulder, Jim Thorpe.

It wasn't me, it was the one armed man.

Seems to be an ongoing issue. There's a local paper, can't recall the name, that gets delivered free to my mailbox monthly. Nearly every issue has reported break ins in Towamensing. I'm thinking it's to strip piping.
