Those areas are clean....South Abington twnshp was just fined by the DEP.....During heavy rains last year they allowed over a million gallons of RAW sewage to flow into Leggetts Creek which flowed directly into the Lackawanna River and then onto the Susq. and so on and so on.

Hey Dan, how you doing? I was more or less kidding, most of the river is great. There is a point source coming from the Throop plant and it takes a few hundred yards before it mixes well enough. I hope that when they do the upgrade to comply with the new regs they will use a dispersion pipe that will gradually combine the effluent with the water.

I think the water for the most part is pretty darn good. Trophy trout water etc. Now one of the reasons for the trout water is the outflow from the mines. Comes out about 45 degrees or so, cools it down for them. You can really feel the chill when you paddle past the outflow between the winton bridge and the first Jessup bridge. Getting my new boat this weekend. I am getting a new (ok, a blem) Wavesport Diesel 75. Only six bills instead of the nine bills for a non blem. It is yellow...so look for me on the river. Hope we have enough water. Hopefully Bernie can sweet talk the ACOE to let some water out of Stillwater the night before.

I was merely being facetious with the mutant Doherty-eating piranha comment. LOL! If anything I think both the Lackawanna and Susquehanna are much cleaner now than they were in the 1990s and 1980s, and I hope that the major riverfront facelift that's nearing completion in Downtown Wilkes-Barre will help to break that "icky river" stigma many locals have. It's surprising to hear that about South Abington Township; it boggles my mind how one of the most affluent communities in the county can't afford a respectable sewage system. The rapelling and rock climbing looks like fun, but with how clumsy I've been as of late (I fell flat on my face at work last night for example), I don't think it would be such a prudent idea! LOL! It's nice to see you and your son getting out and enjoying this nice weather for a true bonding experience. I just got back in from a long run myself, and I feel ambitious enough to consider driving up to Lake Scranton soon for a second workout! I can't remember such a long, nice stretch of weather in NEPA in April ever before.

With Riverfest less than two weeks away, just wanted to say stay tuned to media to see the band lineup for the event. Hope they have some good ones. Oh and to Dan, if you are on the river I will be the one in the new WS diesel. Picked it up saturday and gave a shakedown on the James fall line in Richmond yesterday. Great boat. See you hopefully.
