There used to be a very rustic 1/10 mile drag strip meet (exceptionally short...normally 1/4 or 1/8 mile) in the woods of Wind Gap...back in the day.

1/8 mile - or at least that is what I was told. I picked up a few trophies there with my 55 Chevy. It is located on E. Mountain Road. I also raced at the Old Pocono Drag Lodge off Route 115 north of Blakeslee.

IIRC it really wasn't 1/8 (maybe) but if you recall ... it wasn't much of a strip...coulda measured 1/9th . It was funnnn tho

(Most gear-heads old enough knew PDL and a bunch of others. Drag racing was big back then. Wind Gap was sorta 'unique'. (Do you recall the staging/start line was at an incline (up) then, on the lights, your car would sorta leap onto the flat track before you got to the end... real quickly. It was short. There wasn't a heck of a lot of stopping room before you drove back through the woods. (At least this is my memory )

I did a Google 'Earth' on the old track and it looks like it still might be used? It looks like there is even a car on the track when Google took the picture. It was more fun, back in the days, because you did not have to spend a fortune to race. Everybody could get into it with just a good 'family' car. Of course; there were plenty that did spend big bucks - but it wasn't necessary to get started.
