Mike, I appreciate the back-up, but I know that MrKrabs, Dan, and Ed don't "hate" their city. The problem I see is that too many folks in Scranton are negative about any new business venture that arrives. Why? The more businesses that open in your fair city, the more tax revenues your city council will reap, and the less you'll potentially have to pay in the future in taxes as some of the burden can be better distributed between commercial ventures and residential homeowners. There's always some person who will find each and every business useful. I enjoyed chit-chatting with the owner of Poochie when it was still in operation, and I even purchased a "My Dog Digs Scranton" bumper sticker (that was just featured on "The Office" by the way), as a show of faith; it still adorns my vehicle. I was honestly sad to see it close which is why my blood began to boil when I scoped out DohertyDeceit and saw the celebratory party erupting that another "crony" business bit the dust. That poor woman that operated the store was likely heartbroken by the decision to close her doors, and I'm sure the LAST thing she needed to see was that so many in the city were apparently HAPPY to see her go. Why the nastiness? As I said earlier KOZ or not a business WILL eventually start paying taxes in the long-term once the status ends if it is supported by the commuity, and in the mean time each new KOZ business will help to generate additional foot traffic to spur nearby non-KOZ businesses. I know on more than one occasion my friends and I included trips to Brixx and Coney Island with our jaunts to Poochie, and I'm sure many others did as well.

Scranton may indeed be as several others described it in another thread as having an "identity crisis" because it's failing at striving to become "hip" and "trendy," but it's still a very cozy city to call home. When I travel I no longer see people grimace when I tell them I'm from the Scranton area---on the contrary some people think it's even "cool" because that's where "The Office" is set. Why there is such a lack of civic pride in the Electric City I'll never truly understand. If you folks in Scranton think "the sky is falling" then visit Allentown, Hazleton, Elmira, Reading, Camden, Trenton, Newark, Johnstown, Pittston (ick!), etc. and then come back with your tails between your legs. Granted we're no trendy hot-spot like SoHo, Greenwich Village, Minneapolis, Boulder, Seattle, Ithaca, etc. and likely never will be, but I'm okay with that.

This thread is gone as far as it will go...remember in the future political views go in the sticky and stay within the TOS to avoid infractions
