Patricia013 is on a distinguished road
I was born in Old Forge, Pa. I can remember, as a kid, standing inline at the back window of the pizza place (think it was Salernos) to buy a slice. Darned - nothing like on earth. That was so many years ago - I'm retired now. I can still taste that pizza. I've had NY pizza - lived in NJ for 36 years and had pizza there too. Nothing compares with that Old Forge pizza.

I think I'd like Old Forge pizza much better if it didn't have a notable "oniony" aftertaste. BLECH! I know I can order "a couple two tree trays a red" WITHOUT onions, but when you say that phrase in a restaurant in Old Forge it is considered blasphemy; you get the look of death! To me onions just overpower the flavor of too many foods; I want to taste cheese, bread, and tomatoes---not onions. Similarly I don't like onions on my pierogies. (But boy do I love pierogies!!! OOOOOHHHHH!!!!! OHHHHH!!!)

It is too bad I'm stuck here in PA, I wish I could move back to NY. Don't have the means right now.

Well, we have gone from Pizza to ice cream (at least I have!)
Keatings Ice Cream in Hamlin...it might not have done much business, but I think its here to stay. They have their own farm off Cortez Rd, they make their own ice cream from their OWN milk. They have another store by the farm also, has been there for years and people travel from very far to get their ice cream. I didn't go to the location in Hamlin, only open in the summer months, because I'm a big fan of soft ice cream, which you can olny get mostly in the summer months. I do like Keatings though...they have a lot of flavors like Ben & Jerry's.

I was going to point this out, but you beat me to it. I doubt that Keatings will have any trouble staying in business. I am also a big fan of soft ice cream if I'm going to go though the trouble of going "out" for it.

Like Old Forge pizza. I make it with my own dough and my own sauce and toppings. Same square little tray too. When I tasted Old Forge pizza there, it reminded me of mine. I do have to say, mine is a bit better and much more crispy.

Thank you Patricia,
I don't really know most of the posters, but I would venture to say that most of you that lament the NY style....probably came from the NY NJ area. I like that style too, but nothing says "Hey I am home!" like a slice of pizza from Andy's in Blakely, or a tray from Barrets or hey even go to the source right down in Old Forge. I am 400 miles away from the "best pizza" that I know of...not necessarily what you would say was the best.
