Prune Pierogies, oh yes, I know how to say it in Hungarian, but not know the spelling. I just loved the way my mother made it years ago. Going to have to find a recipe and tackle the making myself. Stefhen

Our family roots are in NEPA & my cousin here makes her own homemade lekvar from our grandmother's recipe. I know she puts orange in it ('cause she uses the ones from my tree!!) and prunes or plums. I'm going to see if she'll give me the recipe & I can post it for everyone. She says it's easy to make.
Also, when my mom was dying she started reminiscing about pierogis & other dishes her mom made when she was a kid. Here in Florida, you can't find a pierogi except for "Mrs. T's", so I did some researching & found homemade ones in Nanticoke at Marty's.
I got her pierogis & halushki & poppy seed roll from there & after $70.00 just in shipping, she was happy!!
Personally, I thought they were big on dough & small on filling, but I guess I'm used to my grandma's too!! Maybe y'all could give your opinions...
Boy loved reading all these messages! Brought back alot of memories. My Babci (Grandmother) used to have Christmas Eve dinner at her house. All us family were there. She had the Kielbasi, Paczki, and Pierogies. She made her own Paczki and Pierogies. The best that I ever tasted. When I went to St. Marys Parochial School in Nanticoke when the ladies of the church would make Paczki's in the school kitchen it would drive us kids nuts! You could smell it all over the school. Best smell on earth! I grew up with all those Polish foods. I lived for my Babci's Goumpki (Pigs in a Blanket). And her chicken soup with homemade noodles was out of this world. When I was little I even loved her Chaninia Soup (Ducks Blood). And yes I used to help her cut off the ducks head. If I had to do it now I'd probably drop over! But when you are a kid you think things like that are fun. I am so sorry that I didn't get to learn from my Grandmother and Aunt how to make all this stuff (except the Chaninia!). I do have some Polish cookbooks that have these receipes so have to get to try them. I remember Rentko's in Nanticoke making Pierogies. They were the best. Exactly like Babci's! But I thought they might have closed. Not sure. Going to Nanticoke to the Vet today so will pass by to check. They were by St. Joe's Hall in town on Prospect St. I was shocked to see that Marty's in Nanticoke makes Pierogies. I grew up on his pizza. I remember Wed. evenings going to Girl Scouts in Nanticoke on Washington St. My father would pick me up and we would get a pizza from Marty's and I'd be home eating it watching Lost In Space on TV! Man what memories are coming back!!
Sent E-Mail to OTTOS Hungarian in Burbank Ca on Sun (they were closed), but on Mon they phoned me in BAJA as to my needs. I made a order that they were going to send out that afternoon. Hows that for service. They also E-Mailed me today a On line Catalog site of which I printed out a lot of items/prices. "http://members.aol.com/HungImprts/OttosCat.htm". A terrific place for HUNGARIANS. Try them out. Stefhen
