Archbald is in Valley View School District, which is mediocre in my opinion. Not horrible, but nowhere near as great as the realtors claim it is. Valley View's good reputation comes more from its high school football success than from its academics. Unfortunately, high school football is a religion in NE PA and in some schools, football championships are considered more important than academic success.
Olyphant is in Mid-Valley school district, which, in my opinion and from people I know who attended Mid-Valley schools, is better academically than Valley View. Personally, if concerned about schools, I would pick Olyphant over Archbald. Although Archbald is not a bad town....the people are friendly and its crime rate is low. The same can be said for Olyphant.
There is a library that serves both towns and the entire Mid-Valley area in Peckville.
I live in Scranton, and have a child in the Scranton School District and I am very pleased with the level of education in Scranton schools. I myself graduated from Valley View and would take Scranton schools anyday over VV.
