Dorothy...
Sometimes 'bigger is better'! I've lived here (The Hideout) for 15 years now, and have seen many changes...most for the better. Our administrative staff are true professionals that work in tandem with our member-elected board of directors. Since 911 our 'full-timer' population has had a growth spurt. The board of directors has done a great job addressing our changing demographics and keeping its finger on the pulse of the community. Because our finances are such that we have the ability to expand the amenities to keep up with the members' desires, we will never be prone to stagnate as many smaller communities do.
My only complaint would be the lack of attendance at our monthly board meetings. That itself shows the majority are satisfied here, though!
'Big' as it is, The Hideout is beautifully maintained from it's roadways to its lakes and beaches. Perhaps the fact that 'the future' has always been taken into consideration is why The Hideout continues to be a premier recreational community!
P.S. The aforementioned 'fight' that received a lot of press years ago, was an anomaly. A few teenage 'renters' were mouthing-off at a security guard. A guest of a member (an off-duty NYC cop) 'came to the guard's aid' by putting one of the teens in a choke hold. He in turn was attacked by the others. That's when all h*** broke loose and the troopers were called. The press made such a sensation of it by calling it a 'riot'. I guess whatever sells their paper is paramount! Regardless, the following 'special board meeting' was the highest attended meeting ever! The outcome was more stringent regulations for those that choose to rent their homes as well as steep fines for the offenders. The county court also dealt out appropriate sentences.
