My husband just got a job in Parsippany NJ (on corner of RT 10 and 287) and now we need to relocate from RI. We started looking in NJ but decided that houses are either too expensive or the taxes are too high. We then started looking in the Mount Bethel PA area and we really like what we see. We need to know what the commute times would be on RT 80.

If he left at 8am?
7am?
or 6am?

Any info on schools would be very helpful also. Grade k and 1st.

Thank you for your help!

I'm not sure what the exact commute time would be but beware that the traffic from about 7-9(ish)am going eastbound on Rts 80, 10 and 46 is awful! If you use mapquest to determine the time it would take to travel from Mt. Bethel, PA to Parsippany, NJ it will give you a pretty accurate time but add anywhere from 30-60 mins on to that to account for traffic. And going Westbound to go home is just as bad from 4-7pm and gets worse in the summers on Thursdays and Fridays because a lot of people go to PA on the weekends.

I live in Morris Plains (town next to Parsippany) off of Rt. 10. I leave my home at 6:30am and travel Rt. 10 East to Rt. 287 and at that time, there is a little traffic but it moves pretty well...

Thanks for the info....

So far we have learned that Rts 15, 23, 10, 46, 287, and 80 going into Parsippany are all horrible......
I think that's all of them right?

Anyone know where to get a cheap helicopter?

Yes, traffic congestion from PA into NJ in the mornings can be very trying during rush hour. A new commuter rail is supposed to be established in a few years from Scranton to Hoboken, NJ with stops in between in the Poconos and Northern New Jersey, but that has been promised to us for many, many years now as a means to alleviate congestion without delivering any promising news of progress. Best of luck!

If the train ever does come, it will still be faster to walk than take it...too many hills, curves ,valleys and stops to make it feasable....Its not high speed.
I see it hauling garbage fron N.J. to Louies dump after a few years of low commuter numbers {the tracks run thru his landfill}

We have a place in Lakeville and without traffic it takes 2hrs from there to Cranford where my family lives. Traffic will def. depend on the time of day.

We just were logged on to Traffic.com to watch the travel times from Parsippany to Mount Bethel (4pm to 6 pm), never got over an hour at the worst and mostly was around 50 minutes.... does that seem correct, or was today a fluke??

Anyone with actual commute times would be great to hear from.

Thanks again

I am in Shohola, just north of Milford...Hubby just transferred out of Parsippany this week. It was taking him about an hour to an hour and a half from here but that's leaving @ 8:30 to be there @ 10. You might want to look in this area...Delaware Valley has excellent schools. My daughter is in first grade and doing great. I can't believe how well she's reading for her age.

Default FF18wife:

ff18wife: Is Shohola mostly non-community developments? (private land). We are in a community now and thinking that we would like to have 2-4 acres this go around. We wouldnt want to go further than Shohola as my DH still would be commuting to NJ(Summit). His hrs arent at rush hr but we really dont want it to be to much more than an Hr (6am-2pm). Can you recommend a realtor ...feel free to PM me.
