I know that they invented Wyoming Valley fried Sicilian, but I think that Pizza Perfect and Pizza L'oven do it better.

I've always liked Pizza L'oven.

Sorry for posting a question and disappearing!

I think Aurants and Le Manhattan Bistro are a little more sophisticated than we are comfortable with; as pointed out by Gerania, we're more pizza joint folks than NYC. We also unfortunately have some issues with ingredients that limit our options - I can't eat mushrooms or anything with truffle oil (which seems to be in more and more things these days) or MSG, and Mrs. Pandy can't handle any kind of peppers or anything spicy - so we usually end up with steaks, seafood, sandwiches at brewpubs, or general purpose places like diners or chains like Applebee's.

Thanks to all for the inputs! I'll look into the other places mentioned and run them by the Mrs.

Remember any place you go to can always adjust the seasonings to your taste if requested....if they don't leave and find another....I was able to eat anything spicy for many years and now that I'm in my middle 50's I can't anymore lest I want to pay for it dearly on the throne....

Cafe Toscana, Katana, Thai Thai, Le Manhattan Bistro are probably the best dinner places downtown. Avoid Hottles, since new ownership took over its not nearly as good as in the past. Arena Bar/Grill, Lucky's Sportshouse, Riverfront Grille are also good nearby.

Here's the update: We stayed at the Fairfield Inn on Kidder Street and were running a little late (as usual) so we needed a restaurant close by. The desk clerk recommended the Anthracite Café on Scott Street, so we gave it a try.

It was Friday evening and the parking lot was packed so we were a little worried, but we only waited 10 minutes for a table and were very glad that we did. Friendly staff, very good food (I had beef stroganoff, Mrs. had baked haddock), and a nice beer selection. No complaints, would definitely return.

Lunch Saturday was at a place we stumbled upon a few years ago, Canteen 900 in Forty Fort. The décor is a little crazy and we're usually the oldest ones there, but the food (usually soup and sandwiches for us) has been just right every time we've gone.

Thanks again to all for the inputs.
