My husband and I who are seniors, are still thinking about moving near Scranton, to be near relatives. Our relatives there, tell us that medical care and good qualified doctors is not very available in that area of PA. Can any one comment on this for us?

Scranton has several hospitals including Geisinger Community Medical Center and the Commonwealth Health System (Moses Taylor Hospital and Regional Hospital of Scranton)- all fully staffed. There is even a medical school. Your in-laws are ill-informed.

I find that, overall, the medical care in the Scranton area to be above average, especially for a city our size. Having lived here 20 years, the only time I hear of people going outside of Scranton for care is when it involves cancer, and even then it's patient preference. Regional is known for their cardiology, Moses for pediatric/OB-GYN/general, and Geisinger CMC as an outstanding all-around hospital. Do they still do trauma? Anyhow, I agree with the above poster - Scranton has three fully-staffed hospitals.

Default thank you for the medical care info

Thank you for the medical care info, from the local residents who actually live in the Scranton area. I guess that my relative, Sue is one of the few who has had problems with the doctors there. Sue had a knee replacement and later she had to have it done again, as the first doctor mismatched the 2 main parts of the knee replacement, and she could not walk properly. Then after that problem, she had to go to another knee dr as the knee cap kept sliding out of place. Now there is a build up of fluid in the knee cap area. Sue also had to have back surgery, and she got an infection. Sue claims that they had to travel from Carbondale to Wilkes Barre to have the back surgery done as there is no drs in the Scranton area who does back surgery. So you can see why we as seniors we are hesitant in moving there. My husband has a heart condition that has to be monitored every six months. So we need to move to an area where there is good medical care. Thanks so much for the info.
