I see there is a Super Wal-Mart in Lehighton. Are there any other major stores? Any major supermarket chains, K-Mart, Target, malls, Auto repair and tire chain stores, general practice doctors, hospitals, veterinarians. What about parks, libraries, post office, major banks? Where is the best area in Pennsylvania to live that has the most amenities, lowest taxes, lowest crime, and is no more than 120 miles away from NYC?

Moved from the Lehigh Valley forum. Should I have left it there? I think of Lehighton as being technically the Lehigh Valley but more Pocono area. Am I right, or should this be moved back?

Lowes is down the road from the Walmart

Supermarkets - Aldis

Auto Repair - there are several and also Advance Auto Parts

Medical - I believe St. Lukes has offices in the area (one of the best in PA) and I think they're affiliated with Geisengers

Animal Drs - there is one in the area and down the road eastbound there are more

Parks - there are many and the Lehighton Canal which has a walking trail along the old train bed

Banks - there is a Wells Fargo on the corner of Rt. 248 & 209

To live with most amenities - Brodheadsville which is eastbound from Lehighton and has way more than Lehighton....worlds largest supermarket is located in Brodheadsville the 95,0000 sq. ft. ShopRite....

No local malls, Kmart or Target. There is a Giant supermarket in addition to the aforementioned Aldi. Honestly, there's not much but everything is within a reasonable driving distance to either Bartonsville/Stroudsburg or the Lehigh Valley.

Lehighton isnt too bad for being located very close to the debilitated PA lower coal region. Its near Turnpike and closer to Broadheadsville and the nicer Pocono area. Driving Route 209 from Lehighton to Tamaqua is really depressing. Drove it the one day coming home from Delaware last weekend, Driving thru old coal towns such as Coaldale, Summit Hill, Lansford, Nesquehoning and Tamaqua is downright depressing, those places are in rough shape. Driving to Pottsville from Tamaqua on 209, where I grew up isn't much better. Port Carbon, New Philadelphia, Cumbola and Port Carbon seen better days.

I wouldgo south of Easton/Allentown, to Hellertown, Coopersburg, or even down to Quakertown. It's only 96 miles to NYC.
