I loved some of the small communities just to the south; like Boiling Springs and Mt. Holly Springs. I shot skeet at the Carlisle Fish and Game club and had lots of fun and friends. Boiling Springs has a nice little lake called the: Children's Lake and everybody is invited for fishing season. It's a great little spot to simply walk around if you do not like to fish. But I do not know if you can find anything in your budget? Perry County is just to the north of Cumberland and the prices are cheaper; but it is more isolated and you would not have the choices you would have in Cumberland.

Car insurance was considerably cheaper when I worked out of Carlisle.
I will definitely check those places out!

Those are PHENOMENAL photos! I could sit by that for hours... Seriously that is the kind of stuff I dream about when I think of my perfect place to live. I'll be poking around those areas for sure...

Here is a professional photo of the "lake" near where I live (hopefully it works) and one of it close up. The "lake" is not very large at all and it actually doesn't look that good in person, but theyre using it to try and sell houses around the area. The angry and hostile geese love it, so... theres that!

I guess its great when you have nothing else... but what you are posting is what I want to spend my time walking around with my family! *siiiiiigh*

IT don't really make it a tourist destination. Just keeping it real.
Any post industrial state got areas like that. If is not scenic idk why im stuck behind jersey and new york plates on 80 .

Well, with everything negative I often say about PA - and there's a lot - I will throw this out: the state parks system is the best, hands-down, of any place I've ever lived or visited on the East Coast, and that's most states.
The parks are free. The camping is plentiful and cheap. The locations are stunning.
OP, when you come here, you must find time to visit these parks: Ricketts Glen, Hickory Run, World's End, Big Pocono (in the NE area). And Presque Isle is the BEST state park of all, a seven-hour drive away on Lake Erie, but worth it (and Route 6 is a fantastically scenic way to get there).
We love the parks here. They cannot be beat.

Our lake looks very similar to your picture of Promised Land State Park. Of course Promised Land lake is much larger; but you cannot see the whole lake from the ground.

I miss the old Photo Bucket. One of these days I have to relearn how to post pictures on CD!
