I am afraid that the only way to cut down the commute would if we had another Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower as President. That might not even work because he was President 60 years ago and our Country has changed to the point that everything is impossible - too many regulations and lawyers (not to mention the cost).

That 1929 Viaduct, four miles into NJ, is a ticking time bomb and will have to be dealt with sometime in the near future. Find a plan to deal with that and widening I-80 (including the Delaware River Bridge) and I think we would be on the right path - but it is expensive and time consuming where we do not need more problems with the commute.

There are no 'easy' answers and we have no real plans on the table.

Improving infrastructure would be a major first step. I would also add getting taxes and zoning under control
to the list.

I don't know about the taxes; pension money seems to one of the big issues.

As far as zoning; I have a sister on the planning commission and she has complained about all the new environment regulations. She told me that they have almost doubled in the last year - for whatever that is worth. I was thinking about buying some acreage; but the cost of subdivision is prohibited. In Pocono Township you can well spend over $50K to subdivide and that most of your lots will not perk. Some regulations are good; but I think we have gone way too far.

Haven't property taxes skyrocketed though?

Regard zoning, it just seems like there were way too many houses built in the Poconos. I'm more referring to controlling lot sizes and general development. This can help control taxes as well. I do agree that some regulations can be over the top, but they help keep a community clean and organized.

I don't know - I have not seen the bill for the new reassessment.

Regulations can be good; but in many cases only help the rich that can afford the legal help. The little guys are pressured out - which if you want to control development I guess you can say is good. But if you look at it as if it is fair; it is not.

I am also not crazy about government controlling large acreage parcels like "Open Space". Perhaps I am skeptical because originally Camelback was government land and now sprawling townhouses and the skiing.

I didn't have luck finding rentals when I was looking to rent a home coming from Georgia that has been almost 10 years ago. I have enjoyed living here in Mt. Cobb out 84 near lake Ariel where you were looking. It is quiet I live in a development and North Pocono School District. I find we are close enough to shopping just about 15 min. I find taxes high here but in Abington District I would think they are higher. I found getting a great Realtor was key. We are moving to Kansas for husbands work. We have neighbors who have had kids at North Pocono and Scranton Prep. Good luck on your search.

One of the complaints that we see here at CD is the attitude of 'locals' towards transplants. Since you were originally here from Georgia; did you have any problems when you moved here? Did your children have any problems? It is one of the topics and I would be happy to hear your perspective.

Good luck with you move to Kansas!

None of the railway mess will matter when Elon Musk puts in his hyperloop underground
