Default Clinton, Obama, and McCain expected at Scranton parade

It was reported on WILK this morning on Nancy and Kevin that Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John McCain are all going to take part in the Scranton St. Patrick's Day parade this weekend. This is great for the area, but unless the drunken debauchery is controlled, this could serve to embarrass Scranton on a national stage. All three presidential candidates in the parade means Scranton will be on a national stage, and all the major news networks will be here...all we need are the drunken idiots who get up at the crack of dawn to double-fist 17 cent green beer to do something stupid like throw a bottle at someone or cause some kind of drunken disruption to give Scranton another black eye.

Maybe this will be the motivation for the city to do something to make the bars stay closed until the parade is over.

If the three of them are in town, there will be more security and police presence than immaginable. There will not be an opportunity for someone to get too out of hand because eyes will be watching everone and everything.

If that is true, that all three are going, then that is some big news.

None of the news outlets that would be here are covering anything other than a campaign stop. They're not here for the parade. They aren't here looking embarass Scranton, as much as people want you to believe; it wouldn't serve no purpose for anyone. You'll get shots of them working the crowds, and it will be far away from any bar (which aren't on the parade route to begin with) or rowdy crowd (which is far less of a problem than is being made out to be, honestly). Any handler who allows their candidate to be put in the middle of a bunch of drunk underage college kids in front of Tinks will be out of a job before the train leaves the station. It will be all about the candidates and very little about Scranton itself.

If anything gets even remotely out of hand, the secret service would get the candidates out of there so fast it'd make heads spin. And still, there'd be shots on the news that night of each of them pressing the flesh in front of the mall, or in front of St. Peters, or at the Friendly Son's Breakfast, or a tight shot of them actually in the parade, with just enough background crowd to make the shot.

Prohibition is over. No candidate will condone the shuttering of a free market economy on their account. The bars opeing at 7, or 9, is seriously not the worst of the problems. But this particular point of discussion went round and round for far too long in an earlier thread. No need to rehash it here.

I'd be worried if Ted Kennedy was coming to support Obama.

Luckily the Lackawanna River isn't very deep...I don't think anyone could drown if he drove his car into it...

I hope SWB takes lots of pictures to post on here......This is history in the making.
Don't worry lots of security, tons of it. I think the Scranton people are smarter then wanting to wind up in jail over St Pats green beer.......
I'm so upset.......to not be able to attend........Bahhhhhh

I don't think that is anything historical about a campaign stop in NEPA the democratic hotbed of the Pa. McCain is coming because the other two are.

Don't put too much faith in the Scrantonians that go out for the green beer being smart or staying out of jail.

Has anyone else but WILK mentioned this? I've looked at other news sites, and haven't seen anything confirmed. Not even much at all as far as the rumors go. Sounds like much ado about nothing at this point.

It was on Nancy and Kevin this morning on WILK, and I heard someone else at work mentioning they heard it on Froggy 101 this morning as well. You are right, I checked the newspapers and TV station sites and nothing on this so far.
