Default Does anyone keep chickens?

I have been looking at some of the townships' websites to look for ordinances regarding keeping a few egg-laying chickens, but I am not having as much luck as I would have liked.

Do any of you have chickens or know the regulations for keeping a few (if even allowed)?

Thanks for any thoughts or experiences on the matter.

I know of several people in Wayne and Pike counties that have chickens. These happen to all be horse stables, but as long as you are in a rural area and have a shed or coop for them, I doubt if you would have a problem.

Here's a link to the Penn State Cooperative Extension website. You might be able to find more info:

I don't know where you live, but lot's of people around me have chickens as well. I know there are some townships that have passed ordinances, or added restrictive covenants to the property when it was subdivided, against keeping farm animals including chickens. I'd think most rural areas you would be OK though. Common sense says be conscientious of your neighbors, keep it clean, and no one would bother you.

Don't even think of having a chicken or some other restricted pets in a home owners community.

Oh please, find out all the information you can gather.........
All I remember is front page news about someone having a Rooster that was croaking in the morning, and the neighbors demanding it get removed.......
The story was making me sad. I didn't finish reading it. But, it kept showing up in the news and gosh, that neighbor was pushing for removal.
Now, that kind of sound never, ever, bothered me...........but.........
There is always one big complainer in a neighborhood, remember that...
Ps......Im sure the chickens would be quieter, of course. LOL
