We looked at Saw Creek about 3-4 years ago. We decided not to buy there and are now so glad that we didnt. From what I hear, it has a few problems ; drugs etc.

It is always good to try an area out. That is the best thing to do. Your wise..........
I've heard some of the above also. But, being close to your dad is so, so, important.......I'd probably just about live anywhere on the earth close to my parents when I was needed by them.
If by tobyhanna you might mean APCP......try not to do that. Even Pocono Farms is a bit better of a location if you have too.
You do know that Saw Creek and Tobyhanna are a distance appart right? Two very separate locations of the Poconos.

yes, i know they are separate. but is everything in tobyhanna bad, or just apcp?it seems so cheap there.lol.i have to laugh, because almost everyone has something to say about apcp...it sounds like west palm beach. if you ever go to you tube, you an see "dem damn dogs",and be clearly frightened that that is what i am contending with here in good old palm beach county. i just got offered a rental in henryville for the month of june.ill see what i can pull up on that...im just trying to stay near the boarder, to make the haul a little more friendly. i am also going to check out pen argyl. i found a real nice place there.im hoping in june we will be able to explore all of the poconos, and meet some people.

I really think that people are overreacting about Saw Creek. I own a second home there and have nothing but a positive experience. I have encountered a few rowdy teenagers but I attribute that to kids being kids. I also saw that someone posted on another thread that Saw Creek is getting a bad rep due to the recent "murders" it was one murder and although any number of murders is very disturbing, I think that exageration only further scares people from going to Saw Creek.
It seems as though those who are most dissatisfied with the community are those who have been there for a very long time. I'm sure that it is shocking for those who have lived in a predominantly white area to see a mix of whites, blacks, hispanics and asians. If you look at any major city, that's the way it is. It seems that what the longtime residents are afraid of is diversity.
Saw Creek has also grown immensly. There are probably double the number of residents in there now. If you look at the Pike County crime statistics you will see that the crime rate is still very low compared to many other places. I have a house in a very safe and quiet suburb in Montgomery County. There is virtually no crime there. Maybe a robbery once a year or so. I compared where I live to Pike County and the crime is really not that bad in Saw Creek.
I saw go rent a place for a month or so and see for yourself.

saw creek ... APCP...Pocono Farms
I must post my opinion here!
I purchased a house in APCP - which in 1994 was lovely and a vacation home, I lived in Staten Island. However, as I chose to raise my kids there it was fine and I didnt believe any of the crap people told me BEFORE I bought, word of mouth was they are all from NY... Well Duh...so was I, so not a problem.
I moved there spent many wonderful years there had a huge gorgeous 5 bedroom, 3500 square ft house, 2 car garage, 14 x 30 all season room, The works!
Then my kids went to school....OOPS! They didnt meet with the bad element until junior high (from kindergarten - 3 girls) by now, I was stuck. Anyway... my point is this.. I lived there and refused to see the dirt around me but when my kids went to school.. I saw it, I had no choice, they brought their friends home, and now you don't want to know the trouble my kids are in, I should have stayed in Staten Island!
As for Pocono farms, just an extension of PCP, its only down the road!
I sold my house in 2006, Thank God!
Unfortuneately I am still in the area and dont like it, but I have one daughter left to graduate high school ---June I'm out of here and I am in Mount Pocono, near the famous Casino, down road from PCP, Pocono Farms and Pocono Farms East. I can't get outta here fast enough Its not a great area ... I am only renting now so I am not committed!
I had a police car in my driveway and the officer was looking out the door checking that his car was still there, so If you really want to know an area, visit your local police dept.
But When you see so many beautiful houses for such cheap rent, chances are, everyone wants out and cant get out fast enough! Thats the curretn case with pocono farms and PCP.
Also, as for Saw Creek Estates, the rumors that it is similar to PCP were confirmed by my husband who was a school teacher at Werdsworth School (A school for criminals and most lived in Saw Creek Estates).
Final Note: In the 1990's there was a real estate scam were many were arrested, they over-appraised houses, gave mortgages to those who couldnt afford for more than house was worth... brought all those who couldnt pay 50 a month for rent nevermind hold a mortgage, get a job...blah..blah but that was the cause of the major over-building in PCP and thus the foreclosures in the area and the crime!
...Just my opinion... make your own decisions!
