Dennis Bonvie's last game
I was at Dennis Bonvie's last regular season game down at Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre last night. Even though the Pens lost in overtime, it was a very emotional night. It didn't matter what the score was because the Pens clinched the division anyway, it was about honoring a man who meant so much to the WBS Pens and the NEPA community. Bonvie gives so much of his time off the ice making apperances in NEPA, it's like he's become one with the area. I've met him before and I can say the man is a classy individual. Like most hockey players, he's down to earth and is a blue- collar type guy from Canada. That's why he can relate so well to people in this area. He may not have scored a lot of goals in his career, but his numbers speak for themselves. He has been invaluable to the teams he has played on, including the local Pens. He brings an intangible element to his game that sometimes can't be recorded on the statsheet.
871 career AHL regular season games with 97 playoff games to go along with that.
92 career NHL regular season games with 1 playoff game.
He is the AHL's all time penalty minute leader with 4,493 PIM's.
Thanks for the memories Dennis and you will always have a place in "The House that Bonvie Built" in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
