Hello: Only my second post here, but I would like to form a list of all amusement parks in the NEPA area. There were many around here and most were associated with railroads or trolleys! I think it would be great if we could attract a major company to build, sponsor, or run an amusement park here in our area again. You all know how we love to hit the county fairs/church bazaars that pop up every year! a permanent park is missing for quite a few years now and we were the kings of amusement parks at on time. It is our ethnic heritage and you all remember the ethnic nights the parks had for each group... AHH the FOOD! If you build it they will come! Luna Park -- Laurel Line Rocky Glen -- Laurel Line Fern Brook -- WB/Dallas/Harvey's Lake trolley Hanson's -- LVRR San Souci -- WB/Nanticoke Trolley And the list goes on!

Nay Aug had a small amusement park when I was a kid. The old roller coaster at Nay Aug is still the only roller coaster I've ever been on.

This is from the Wikipedia page for Nay Aug Park:
Nay Aug Amusement Park was a small amusement park based in Nay Aug Park. The park was run by Karl and Ralph Strohl, who received the park from their father. The amusements included toy tanks in a circle, caterpillar, bumper cars, helicopters, cars on a track, merry-go-round, boats in a small pond, and a small whip. One of the park's highlights was the small wooden roller coaster, The Comet Coaster (also known as Comet, Jr.) There was a miniature Lackawanna train which went around the roller coaster. The building that housed the bumper cars was previously a dance hall during the 30's and 40's where big bands came to play. The park was closed in the 1990s. The site of the former park is now green space. A small amusement area is now located near the swimming pools. Nay Aug - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

The park at Harvey's Lake was Hanson's Park----in fact, the family still owns the carousel, but it is up for auction and locals are trying to raise money to buy it and keep it locally ( I believe I saw the notice on the WNEP website).
There was Angela Park on 309 near Hazleton; Croop's Glen at Hunlock's Creek (their chidren's carousel is at Knoebel's these days); Rolling Green Park at Sunbury; and Lakeside Park & Lakewood Park near Hazleton---(Barnesboro?) where my folks went to dance to the Dorsey brothers Big Band sounds----the world famous Dorsey's were natives of Shenandoah, Pa...... |

Located on the Lehigh Valley/CNJ RR off old RT 115 near the 7 Tubs park. Hard to find. Still foundations left. Couldn't find any history except: Defunct Amusement Parks Home Page |

Unless of course physical problems prevent you from roller-coasting. Then it's a tragedy!. |
